...and I got a new riding partner with the deal.

I've been going into the shop that had it for almost two years trying to get them to give me a deal on it. Finally my son is big enough that we really needed something bigger than the 6 speed 20" that he's been riding. I was going to give up on the killer $425 Trek and get one of the also-nice, but not-quite-as-nice $329 Specialized HotRock A1 FS 24. The Trek is 24 speed, casette hub, replacable hanger, Deore deraillers, 1-1/8" threadless, 27.2mm seat tube, and comes with 2" Bonty tires. It was not worth $100 more than the '03 Specialized, but they finally broke down when they saw a wad of cash and sold us the Trek for $375. We rode both days over the weekend.

Glad to see you both had a great time on the new ride.

Are those rubber boots SPD compatible?

Lucky kid! I wish I had a bike like that when I was his age. It looks like you two are in for some good times.
Lucky Kid, indeed. Looks like he had a great time (nm)michigantammy

I just upgraded my riding partner from a 20"er to a 26"er. I raided the parts bin and came up with the following:

Superblo 14" Access frame

Full LX drivetrain except Sram Attack shifters

Mavic 221 rims w/Specialized Stout hubs

WTB "Glittergirl" saddle

Syntace VRO bar/stem combo - very adjustable for when she grows

Sorry for the poor pic quality. The lighting in my 150+ year old barn ain't so great. Oh,yes I did drag her out to the barn in her PJ's to take the pic!

Trust me Ed, your rides with the young lad will be some of your best.

Ya done good!
good stuff Ed ...Nick.

Second best part? - It fits in the trunk too.

The gumboots are the best part...Painter

of the whole thing. :)

I could have used a pair of those this weekend on the Shore. The mud was rotor-deep in a lot of spots.

Congrats on the new ride. I can't think of anything better than sharing your passion with your son.

Love seeing the grin on your boys face! How old is he? I've got

my 10 yr old nephew on a kids Trek, which is definitely too small. I've got my old Litespeed in the attic waiting to be built up for him. Thinking of breaking it out for a Christmas present, but I don't want to put him on something too big.

ready for BC, huh?JimC.

I love the camouflage helmet.

Lucky boy, lucky dad. I can't wait for my 2 year old to hit some singletrack.

...as my boy has the same bike. Looks like you scored last year's model, too, which is a better bike than this year's dumbed down version.

Some of my most memorable rides have been with my kids. Enjoy.
A 26" wheeled bike should be about the same price ...Biking Viking

Even this one is just a little too big.Fast Eddy

He needs a top-tube pad, if you know what I mean.

Besides, I've got another one coming up the pipe, so I figure I'll get about 8 years or so of use out of it. This one fills a minor gap in my set of bicycle sizes. I need just one more in the above-26" category...
Get all those kids some riding glasses!mtbiker71xx

It's never too early to get an eye injury. Along with helmets and gloves, glasses should be required.

Great to see the kids out riding. Can't wait to get my 2 year old out on the trails in a few years.

Ride On.
Hey right on!mudferret*

Looks like he's having a blast. I can't think of a better riding partner to have for yourself. You've gotta be careful though, if Race Face ever comes out with 140mm cranks he'll just HAVE to have them;-)
