Getting connected...JæDub

Hiya all! I'm fairly (6 months) new to the MTBing scene and have caught the bug you all clearly have. Unfortunately, my wife has yet to see the light and none of my engineer friends see the logic... please don't let me turn into them!

I need some advice concerning connecting with others for rides. I'm a beginner when it comes to skill, and fear that I might bring down a group ride. So what is a newbie to do?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Probably the best place to hook up for a ride is the Local Bike Shop. Most have beginner or multi-level rides they host.

I committed to mountain biking last spring and bought my first "real" bike. From there I joined the New England Mountain Biking Association. From there I have been able to hook up with several group rides (small groups.....6 people max so far). Every time I was the least experienced rider, but everyone was super cool and gave me encouragement and tips and a lot of patience.

In general, I believe mountain bikers to be one some of the coolest, friendliest people out there. I do plan on trying to hook up with more riders at or around my ability in the spring...but sprinkling rides in with better riders pushes you to improve and that's when it gets fun....when you are able to get over that log you couldn't the last time you on a particular trail, or to tackle a sketchy technical section of trail for the first time, it's a great feeling and instills more confidence and a desire to get better with each ride.

Good luck dude, you've hit upon an awesome and addicting sport!
