| Burner for saving digital images, some help is needed....... | KMan Dec 16, 2002 6:35 AM | | I posted a few weeks ago about storage for digital images here and got some good advise. I ended up buying a Lite On 52x24x52 CDRW Model LTR-52246 Retail, that came with "Nero" software from NewEgg.com . I could not get the burner to save any images and from looking at the Zero website it looks like the software does not support digital images.....something about Kodak rights? Am I really just that computer illerate and cannot get it to work or did I buy the wrong product (CDRW) or is the software just not compatable and I need to buy different software????? My intent with the purchase is to be able to store digital images on a disc so I can retrieve them later & bring the disc to the photo shop so they can print my images.
Can anyone help me along with this and offer me some guidance
Thanks

| The software | Yeti_Rider Dec 16, 2002 6:43 AM | | should support any file format. Can you burn other files to CD or is it just graphic. Furthermore, what graphic format are you using? Kodak has a proprietary photo-CD format but most digi-cams take pictures in JPEG or TIFF format which are general digital image formats.
I don't know what software you have with your CD burner, but I use Roxio version 5 and you have two options to store images. One is to simply archive them on CD and the other is to actually format a CD-RW as another "disk drive" so you can copy and delete to that disk at will.
First, make sure you can copy anything to a CD (you'll ruin the CD when you do this if it's just a CD-R, but they're cheap so experiment with a few to make sure you get it right)

| Nero should be fine... | ShaunTheSheep Dec 16, 2002 6:48 AM | | As far as a CD burner goes, they're all pretty much the same these days except for how fast you can write to them.
I've been using Nero for years and apart from the fact that the software is aimed at a slightly more expert user (my opinion) it's been great. If you just got Nero recently, you should have NeroExpress installed (if not upgrade from nero.com). This is a slightly more easy to use Wizard-style program. Just choose 'data disk' from the list of CD types to burn, choose your files and off you go.
Good luck! |
| Nero should be fine... | KMan Dec 16, 2002 7:42 AM | | Does Nero support jpg files? I have version 5.5.9.13
I used the wizard but couldn't get it so save as any proceedure I used showed it did not support jpg files. I think according to your info that I may have been selecting the wrong file type... I did not choose "data disc", but I think I used "image file". Is there a manual any where for this as the "help" instructions are pretty much useless in my book.
Thanks

| Ahh - I see your problem... | ShaunTheSheep Dec 16, 2002 7:47 AM | | The 'image' file option that you picked is *definitely* the wrong one. Data-disk will be what you want - it'll let you create folders and drag and drop *anything* onto the CD - then burn away. As for the manual - isn't there a PDF online document in your start menu (or in the Nero install directory) - not at home so I can't look right now.
The imagefile option allows you to write a 'ISO' image (not a graphical format but a file that represents the low-level data that is written to a CD).
