| MBTB5: Friday/Saturday rainout! Re-planning thread. RSVP! | Fast Eddy Apr 30, 2003 3:27 PM | | Everything I've read says tons of rain on Friday. I rode up to Coe today and talked to the ranger. Singletrack is closed for today and tomorrow, and it looks like the rain will start just after midnight Thursday night.
Anyone up for a night ride on Thursday night? My lights are charging now, and I may do it even if no one else comes.
Laffeaux, I think camping will be a washout, but I'm still willing to consider it. You're supposed to have 10 to use the group camps, and I didn't get a definite yes from the ranger if we had less. I have to call the head ranger in the morning. My group has 5 right now, and we'll go if it's not pouring, but it probably will be. All the singletrack will be closed, and the fireroads around there suck ass. It might be cool for hiking on Saturday. There's a really cool 4 mile loop from the camp down to China hole and back. If there are no Saturday riding plans, this is what I and my kids are probably going to do.
Our best bet for Friday, for anyone that's hardcore, would be Annadel. Lots of driving and it still may get rained out. We could just eat tacos and go for a winery tour at Martini & Prati I suppose. I'm going to try to talk PaulJ into it, and all are welcome to join. I can bring the truck and four riders if we want to commute. 11am start, meeting in Howarth Park? Laffeaux, you could ride up with us. Bring a raincoat!
Saturday will be showers at the worst. I'm going to ride somewhere, and I'm open for suggestions.
Sunday is on! It's going to be muddy up there, but there'll be other people riding up there, and I don't have that high of mud-morals. They close the really sensitive areas. Arguments welcomed. Bigboulder Steve, don't wimp out. It's only mud.
I'm open for suggestions regarding Monday as well. Skeggs is the current plan. Demo forest holds up really well in the wet, other than the deadly log piles. Coe may also be open Monday, if it doesn't rain on Saturday. Derek can ride the really short middle ridge loop and still make work if we start early enough.
Please respond!! I'm sorry for screwing around with the schedule, but my request for perfect weather was denied!

| oops. I stand corrected. | TimL Apr 30, 2003 7:38 PM | | For some reason I pictured that in my head as you coming down Table Mt. and needing to make a hard right to go down Canyon Trail and out to Stevens Creek Canyon.
...opening another beer, my next posts ought to be more intelligent.
I have to work Sunday, sorry to miss your ride.

| Wilder Ranch-Santa Cruz | Ace Mulligan Apr 30, 2003 4:25 PM | | How much rain are you expecting? Do they shut down trails at the Wilder Ranch? |
| There's going to be 1-2". | Fast Eddy Apr 30, 2003 7:59 PM | | They don't shut down trails at Wilder, but the best (secret) stuff gets pretty muddy, and I'd prefer not to ride it when it's that wet. |
| When do you ride? Want to meet up? | GrahamKracker May 1, 2003 12:10 AM | | I live on the Campus, a few hundred feet from the fire station. I'm always ready to ride with new friends.

PS - 2 days ago mailboxes was disgusting, I had to turn back after maybe 30ft. Definitely some major damage if people ride it like that. The sand in Wilder was draining much better. I think the organic material towards HWY 9 holds water in, not to mention that those trails never receive direct sunlight. |
| We don't get over there as often as I'd like. | Fast Eddy May 1, 2003 8:19 AM | | Probably once every six weeks or so... |
| changed plans | TimL Apr 30, 2003 5:13 PM | | My buddy and I are riding at the Demo Forest Thursday (tomorrow) early afternoon, time is a little loose, but probably around 1pm. If you don't get any takers on the night ride you are welcome to join us.
I really wanted to ride on Friday, so if something doable materializes I am in.
I work Sat & Sun
Monday I am in, I get off work in Burlingame at 8AM so I can make most of the greater bay area by 10AM.
Cheers

| sunday ride happening in annadel | moschika Apr 30, 2003 11:02 PM | | if folks are interested in coming to annadel some of us are planning a ride in annadel starting around 10:30. the weather should hold but we're to expect plenty of rain on friday and saturday which means some sections will be mucky and we'll end up staying clear of others.
i'll post more on where we are planning on meeting that morning. most likely howarth if we get a lot of out-of-towners interested in coming. |
