MBTB5: Homeless MTBer's bathing in a residential creek...(15 posts)

MBTB5: Homeless MTBer's bathing in a residential creek...UncleMTB

After major hassles arranging to ride today....

I woke up and E-mailed Ed about how great the weather was in the North Bay( I lied).

After convincing the entire crew that a ride at Annadell was the best option (it is the closest ride to me).

We agreed to meet at Starbucks near the park.

I threw all my stuff in the Glomar expecting a thrilling ride on the freshly washed trials.

The weather guessers had been tormenting Ed all week.... (something about raining on his parade)

Well "Damn the torpedos, and the weather guessers" we're gonna' ride.

I make it to the Starbucks early and start calling the crew to let them know the current conditions....(a warm drizzle) "It's really nice... I'm finishing my half caff mocha thingy".

JRM and Pimbot (John and Erich) arrive...Erich was stoked, he has eight days left of health insurance soooo He's riding. John is ready for the second ride on his new Heckler (I'm drooling).

Then three trucks roll in... "Hey are you guys MTBr dudes"?.

Well perfect I totally spaced their names....Doh....(some help).

Anyhow a few minutes later we see Ed's truck rolling off hwy 12.

After some milling about we head to the trailhead(actually a residential neighborhood).

Ed tells us that he likes this spot because it has a creek for after ride clean up (I have visions of nine riders bathing in full view of the affluent residents.... I was not mistaken).

The ride itself was excellent. The trails were in prime springtime shape (in spite of the endless rain we have been having).

We had a grand first ride of MBTB5. As this will likely be my only ride of the Gathering I had to make the most of it.... I am well contented.

A fine finish at Lepe's with new aquaintances.... (I just need to tie down their names).

I got one picture during our ride.... I could not pass up the view of a group of homeless riders bathing and changing while the soccer moms drove by... I think a couple even dropped their cell phones.

In line with the discussion about Gay cameras.... the photo showed the riders with they're clothes on...

Hey Tim,

You guys start at Howarth park or where? I've gone up with a friend from near the cemetary, I think it was on the south side taking Steele Lane off of 101. Good for you guys getting a ride in. I spent the day replacing headlamp bulbs on the carz.

Rain, rain go the freaking he!! away!

We were a few miles south of where you parked.

Our start was three blocks south of Hoen on Summerfield....

The street is Parktrail... I am sure we will see no bathing signs up next time we ride here.

I am ready for the rain to quit as well....

I'll be back at it Next friday. I'll E-you when Ed and I nail down ride times for the following Monday and Thursday.

Tim
A little warmer and I think you could get a ticket..johnnyb

At least no one stripped down.

When is this rain going to let up? The NWS just shows the heaviest part are soon coming. Oh, well at least the stink is off the streets of the city now.

We were a little more discreet with the changing....

Although Ed told me there was a woman making popcorn while I was changing.

It wasn't as bad as at Otero in New Mex. where I changed behind a ladies truck. She walked up with her grandson just as I have my shorts off...The little boy pipes up and says "what's that guy doing to our truck"....Cute kid.

in your typical outdoor bathing operation? Will you have to build settling ponds? Install a closed system?

They say cleanliness is next to Godliness; heck, around here cleanliness is next to IMPOSSIBLE this time of year!

It is an issue of soils migration from a different watershed....UncleMTB

Something about the fish getting confused on their commute home...

Cease and desist, rather than mitigation is the recommended fix.

I think the Total desolved solids were well within the limits for creek run off.

We were attempting Godlyness...Dirt god first, water god second.

Also note we all had the proper vehicles for this expedition...

Not one RiceRocket among 'em.

Tim
Had an epiphany about rice rockets yesterday........AK Ken

I was sitting at a stoplight in Fairbanks when a tiny ricer pulled alongside and the booming bass from their sound system rattled my teeth.

It occurred to me that if they can't afford power where it matters, they'll buy power where it doesn't.

Carry on.

I had to do a complete tear down of my front end to clean my headset. What a drag. The thing sounded like a cement mixer when you moved the bars. I got it all apart, and the bottom bearing was packed with mud. I spend about 3 hours cleaning the crud out of my bike, and another two finding a new chain and granny gear at the LBS's.

While cleaning my rims, I also noticed that the sidewalls of my front rim were polished smooth. From the factory, Bonti Mustangs have ridges machined into them, and they were there last I checked. Good thing my Disc shows up Monday!

Imonna jury rig a lizard skin style headset boot for Sunday. I shoulda just bought one.

I gotta say tho, I had a great time, even if conditions weren't the best. But hey, that's half the fun!
