| New Bike Porn! | Jisch Nov 26, 2003 1:49 PM | | Over the summer I helped out on some trail maintenance that New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) ran at a forest I frequent. It was four hours of back breaking work, moving rocks and dirt.

After we were done I felt great for helping out and DOING something for a change instead of just complaining about it.

Fast forward to Monday night. I'm checking out the NEMBA boards (http://www.nemba.org/yabbse/) and find that I have a Private Message from the President of the CT chapter of NEMBA. Turns out they raffle a demo bike from Cannondale every year. You get entered into the raffle by helping out on maintenance.
I won a freaking bike! I never win stuff like this. I know the rap that Cannondale gets on this board, but still. Its a '03 Cannondale Jeckyl 500. I rode it around the yard a bit today. Put some discs on and you've got a really nice machine. For now it will be the family FS - wife's when we go out and my son's when he rides...
After their historic purchase of Vietnam in MA, NEMBA is running a winter fund drive, guess who is going to make a nice contribution?

| SCORE! | radair Nov 26, 2003 3:17 PM | | You bastid!
I actually won a Rocky Mtn frame & Fox fork last year in the NH raffle, but since I organized the raffle and all the maintenance days, I told them to draw another name. Let me be the first (OK, probably not the first) to say I AM AN IDIOT.
Congrats John, nice winter beater! ;^D |
| SCORE! | Jisch Nov 26, 2003 3:22 PM | | I'll put something up over at NEMBA once I get good shot of my son on it. Its really going to be his bike. When we got my daughter her new Giant this summer, he was complaining that he NEVER gets a new bike. All the bikes he's got so far have been hand me downs.
Well, this one's not exactly new (its a demo) but its pretty dang nice.
Its pretty big for a medium, with enough seat post, I _could_ ride it....

| re: New Bike Porn! | Structure Nov 26, 2003 9:09 PM | | Sweet! It doesn't need disk brakes. It'll be better this way in NE. Give us a ride report once you have some miles on it? |
| Discs | Jisch Nov 27, 2003 5:10 AM | | I've got Avids Mechanicals on my bike, I like 'em better than the Vees on this one. The cable routing for the rear brake is problematic, the routing would be much better with discs.

| congrats! | narlus Nov 27, 2003 12:13 AM | | that is really cool, nice to see the trail maintenance getting done and people like cannondale stepping up to provide additional incentive.
and ain't winning stuff cool? :) |
| I saw that... | Jisch Nov 27, 2003 4:59 AM | | Yeah - I saw that post the other day, that was the day I got the message that I had won. I was going post under that, but I only half believed it myself until I had the bike in hand.
Good one.

| New Bike in Action... | Jisch Nov 27, 2003 7:05 AM | | My son riding on the trail around my house this AM. His comment, "This is the best bike I've ever owned". Yeah, that's what its all about:
