Nice clear morning here, minus 31F; glad I got my ride in last nite when it was only -12!

Why are you guys so thankful for Columbus?

Ken
Who's Colombo?JimC.
Nov 27, 2003 11:15 AM
what's a detective got to do with today in the Ewe -Ess of eh? eh?

As usual, we "invented" it, and you copied us ;P

"The Canadians can actually lay claim to having had the first Thanksgiving celebration in North America. Martin Frobisher, an English Navigator, held a formal ceremony in Newfoundland in 1578. He did this to give thanks for surviving the long sea journey. Other settlers continued the tradition after they arrived in Newfoundland. At the time of the American Revolution, Americans who remained loyal to the Government in England, moved to Canada and thus Thanksgiving celebrations spread throughout Canada.
You think because it's in quotes it's true?AK Ken

Lies, all lies, I'm sure! I remember driving through Canada on your Thanksgiving Day many years ago and needing some sort of service (bank, maybe?) that wasn't available.

So even if you were first, I'm sure that we gracious, kind spirited, harmonious Americans are much MORE thankful than you igloo dwelling savages. After all, it's a pretty uncivilized country that makes you kill each other with baseball bats instead of handguns!

I'm working up my nerve to go outside and take some pictures of the state plow truck that hooked an expansion joint on a bridge last nite, slammed into a car, and went over the guardrail into the Nenana River. Amazingly, everyone lived (so far). Glad I don't spend holidays (or any days) in one of those contraptions anymore.

Ken

ps:Peter Falk was Colombi, right?
yep...JimC.
Nov 27, 2003 12:20 PM
and we don't use bats, we use hockey sticks, eh?

I guess the plow drivers had a rude awakening. And down here in the frozen north Ken, it's +6C now, that's warmer'n youse!

and Yep, I think it was Peter FAQ or whatever.

Jim
Thanks (burp) Jim. -nm-Nick.

If it makes you feel any better I 'worked' this morning, climbing a fake pine tree. It was a beautiful day anyway, even if I didn't get a ride in.

That turkey was quite yummy too.
WTF is "climbing a fake pine tree"JimC.
Nov 27, 2003 3:33 PM
and why is it work? I don't get that. Hope the turkey was good, Jim (man it's HUN-GREE in here!)

He was probably climbing a camo cell tower.

If you're hungry Jim, you should just truck on down here to the CO mountains, dinner was fabulous, the company even better.

I would have been REALLY thankful for a bottle of La Finn du Monde!

Happy Thanksgiving Jim, and everyone else too!
Yeah, that's it.radair

A monopole blew over in Oswego, NY last week. It landed on the fire chief's SUV (serves him right...). He wasn't too happy about it.

The company that made it (and this one) admitted that they had a "software problem" with their baseplate design. I'm a structural engineer and am inspecting and analyzing some suspect towers for one of the cell carriers.

Today's fake tree:

Warming my hands on a big tower on an island in Maine (winter time).

Fun stuff, the best part of my job. Except when you have to do a POS old rusty guyed tower on a windy winter day....

Dave, that table looks fine but where's the vino? You could have invited me. Would have brought a bottle of Gallo Merlot(yummy:) Got out to Betaso yesterday for one slick ride. Went by Lidermans but he must have been getting fat somewhere else.

Hope the new helmet is treating you right.

See you on the trail.
