Farewell to The Old Grey Mare...(9 posts)

Farewell to The Old Grey Mare...Lucky

and that doesn't mean I'm leaving. ;^P

A gal I worked with quit to go back to school in Boston and needed a beater bike for commuting. I have a bike overflow situation in the garage, so I gave her the Old Grey Mare. When I get my left arm out of this smelly cast, I'll set up my hardtail as my new commuter. Even with a front shock, it'll weigh less that the rigid '87 C'dale.

Have a good life, faithful steed.

.....think you were old enough to be going grey ;o)

Giving a faithful bike away is very DaleRideresque. Good for you.
Thank you....Lucky

but it seems like every night the Grey Hair Fairy adds another one. ;^) I try to think of them as evidence of wisdom.

Wow, it's got V's and a cushy seatpost...she'll be happy.

Hope it brings you many karma points.

from a ways back.

Actually, we took off the suspension post and a couple other items to reduce possibility of theft. The "plain vanilla" look was what she wanted. I told to make sure she locked up the front wheel good - that's a low mileage XT hub on there, probably the most valuble part on the whole bike.

a friend and he hasn't much room in his apartment so it visits with me during the winter. I get to tune it up and say goodbye once a year.

It was my first mtb so it is welcome for sure.
What a fine act of kindness! What happened to your arm though?CTRider

That was such a great gesture Kathy, I'm sure the gal will put that rig to good use!

Bike overflow situation eh? How many and what are they?

I have a little bit of a bike overflow situation in my apartment at the moment and I'm contemplating making it worse! YIKES!

Take care,

'96 Fisher Montare hardtail - will get slicks and replace the Mare as my commuter

'00 Titus RacerX

'03 Iron Horse Hollowpoint

'00 or '01 Ventana El Fuego, probably next on the auction block

'01 or '02 Haro 24" cruiser

'01 Litespeed Tuscany

If I sell the El Fuego, I'll probably get a road touring bike and take some long trips. The Tuscany has no eyelets for panniers.

The arm sounds worse than it is. I had to have a second surgery to re-attach a little piece of bone to reconnect the cartilage attached to it, leftovers from last years road bike crash that shattered my wrist. With just one pin, it's minor compared with last year's repairs, but it's slow to heal and must be held really still. I'm in an over-the-elbow cast for a total of 6-8 weeks....at least. I find out Wednesday how it's doing and whether or not I get the cast off before Christmas. Hopefully, I'll be re-hab'ed and ready to ride in the spring.
