'The third fastest occurred in 1965, and was a bizarre footnote in the race's history. That year, the race was run as a single-speed race - no derailleurs. With favorable wind conditions, the winner, Dutchman Gerben Karstens, posted an average speed of 45.029kph on the 246.8km course. It was the fastest average in Paris-tours to date, and lasted until Redant's 1992 ride.'
