acs knocking(8 posts)

acs knockingchumbly

What's up w/ my freewheel? It's almost new and about 1/2 the time I peddle it knocks. In other words half the time I start out peddeling it knocks. The other half it's nice and silent. I figure it's got to be the fw because the knock corresponds to the chainwheel to fw cog ratio: every peddle rev = 2.6 knocks.

Thanks...

The ACS seems especially prone to knocking, but the Shimano freewheels will eventually knock, too. Dunno about the Dictas. I've tried all the remedies that people have recommended here without any success.

I've mentioned this before, so I apologize if I sound like a broken record (ooh, that sounds old - my kids don't even know what a "record" is), but the new SunRace freewheel is silent.
but where to buy?!peds

The freewheel I purchased is a 16T. I ordered an 18T the same day I bought the 16T. That was so many months ago, I completely forgot about it till just now. I guess I should consider myself lucky to have the 16T.
2 out of 3 Shimano knockeddgoodisi

In the past 6 months I have had 3 Shimano freewheels with 2 of them "knocking" straight out of the box.

I was planning on trying the ACS but am dismayed to here they knock too.

Is that price quote on the new SunRace freewheel correct?

The pics on the ISSA site don't look like $100 bucks.

...I just coast for half a moment so the pawls are in a different place and it usually is quiet. Mine has knocked almost since the moment I put it on.

I've been through a dozen claws, three shimaNO, and two dictas.
I've ended up with one 17t and one 16t claw, and one 18t shimaNO that are perfectly silent. And by silent I mean pedaling, and coasting quiet. bringing out the true stealth ability of the SS.

The rest were knockers. They are still good, just really loud
and annoying. So I use them for racing when I don't give a sheet about the noise.
