| Trying it out | JPJ Feb 18, 2002 4:19 PM | | I'm curious, what are the equivalent chain rings/cogs on my 27 speed to what you run on a single speed? You have to be basic here cuz, although I've riden since '89, I don't remember numbers too well. So, if I put my chain in the middle ring in front and smallest ring in back - and leave it there - will I get an idea of what it's like to ride a single speed?
I'm really intrigued by the idea. I could convert my old MB-3 if I like it...
Thanks,

The thing with a singlespeed is it feels like one or two teeth lighter because the drivetrain is more efficient and the bike is lighter. Also after about 4 weeks, your body and style will change to pedal without gears efficiently.
So there you go, try to hang in the middle ring, middle gears in the cog. If it's not misery in your local trails, you should try singlespeeding.
