Another ss-atisfied customer.....eelpie

Well, I'm completely hooked. Took my newly built SS out for 3 rides this past weekend and absolutely smoked my buddy on his FS. Had a blast and feel like it's the only ride for me. I'm much faster, I can hop higher, and the bike is simply more alive (as where my lungs after several hills...but I rode ALL of em and it felt great!). What a freeeeekin' workout.

The only problem is, I don't know if it's the SS, the compliant steel frame, the particular geometry of the Inbred, the fact that I haven't been on a hardtail in years, the lightness compared to my Aeon Isis, everything combined, or WTFKW, and I guess I don't even care. Who knew this would make riding so much more fun? The only negative was that I flatted for the first time in I don't know how long and didn't have a wrench with me, which necessitated a hike-a-bike back to the car.

I can't wait to take it out again Wednesday evening. Now off to the Motophoto for the pics (didn't have the digi with me).
Who knew????Shiva Steve

We did!!! Congrats. Hope to see that steel baby in action one of these days.
Don't worry, you will.....eelpie

I'm really not interested in riding anything else right now...the FS will still come in handy at rocky areas like Gambril, but for just about everything else I think it's the Inbred. Riding is all new again.

Next stop will be either Patapsco/Avalon or Schaeffer this weekend. I've been proselytized. See you out there...
Get rid of that FS!Drevil

Just kidding, it is nice to ride a different bike every once in a while, but the SS will become your favorite ride, guaranteed!

Kendog rides his rigid SS at Gambril all the time because it's so close to his house. Before I rode at Watershed with the rigid SS I thought it was impossible, but now I love it!

When I put on a shock for the big ride at Eliz Furnace with 4 others on this page, including Shiva, I could not get used to the monkey motion. Compounded with my flabby body, the Sid SL did me no favors. Luckily I got my Kelly fork last week, and the bike's "da bomb", as they say in these parts...

Mebbe we'll see you at Avalon this weekend.
2.4 WTB's....Cheap!....T O M A

After a loooong ride at Big Levels Saturday, I went to Cycle Recycle in Waynesboro.

I picked up a 2.4 WTB moto raptor tire for $14.99 this will grace my rigid ss when it first sees dirt!

If anyone's interested, i saw plenty of old freewheel threaded mtb wheels and tons of other "old school" stuff—all super cheap!

and yes, they have all of those neon pink, yellow & green parts that used to adorne your favorite steed! as much as you want!

TENTATIVELY:
On Saturday, wife and I are going to Schaeffer @ 8:30. On Sunday, we are going to Avalon @ 9:30. I may be able to split from her during one of the rides, as long as I give her a heads up. Maybe I'll see y'all there.
Shaffer sat Morning?...T O M A

I'm heading to shaffer as well.
I won't get there til around 9am. I've got to pick up some friends and they're never ready!

I'll be riding a red spot or a blue rigid cannondale.
OK, I did say tentatively...Drevil

Wife and mother have other plans for me. Since I have to drop off my mom at BWI at 9, I won't be able to make it to Schaeffer until about 9:45. Shiva, I think my wife (Jo) would like to ride with some new people. Sounds like Jo has the same philosophy about biking as Kine.

As for Sunday, we are shooting for 9:30 at Fountainhead, since some in-laws wanted to join us. Sounds like a mellow-riding weekend for me... ;^)

If anyone wants to meet up with us, I'll be riding one of my MC Utes ;^)
Maybe...Shiva Steve

I can drag my wife out there, and they could hang if want to split off!? Kine just started riding so she takes it fairly slow, more enjoying being out in the woods than anything else.
I tried to get my wife into MTBing...T O M A

I bought her a nice MTB about 6 years ago, she rode it twice then sold it and bought a computer!

I don't mind though, she's pretty understanding and lets me ride almost as much as i want!
Just threw down some $ on an FS for my girlfriend....eelpie
Apr 17, 2002 12:44 PM
and she's only had a chance to ride it once (last Sunday). I'm pretty sure she will be up for a ride at Schaeffer on Saturday...only problem is, she likes her beauty sleep. But I think an early ayem ride is in the works...this is looking very shweet...
well...Shiva Steve

My wife likes her sleep too, and I have to pick her up pretty late at the airport Friday night, so its an open question how early I would be able to get us both there.......
One or both of those plans sound cool.....eelpie
Apr 17, 2002 12:40 PM
have to get my lazee ass outta bed early, but I'm up for it.
Coincidence?....T O M A
Apr 16, 2002 12:21 PM
that's funny, i remember the same thing happened to me!

does everybody flat (w/out wrench) on thier first ss ride?

my rigid ss —presently on ss commuter duty will be converted over to dirt detail in the near future...guess i'll leave the wrench at home on it's maiden voyage—wouldn't want to break the trend!
