| Manitou Black and my Chester | ernesto Apr 17, 2002 10:45 AM | | Any ideas on the new Manitou Black? I am thinking of putting one on my chester to alleviate the pain...
But tonight, at my place, there will be Sierra Nevada, RH Phillips, and snacks.
We might have some beef though. I don't know for sure. But if we do, we'll have to wait until Memorial Day, because sometime between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a miraculous event occurs. Seemingly overnight, Omaha Gulch (a small stream that stretches from Omaha to the Colorado Rockies alongside I-70) is filled to the brim with beef and beef by-products. Chuck steaks, rib eye, sirloin tip and assorted chunks of meat ooze towards the ocean with a lazy, bubbling motion. You won't find it on any map, but the odor is unmistakable. I suppose it depends which side of the fence you straddle, farmer or rancher, but I guarantee one visit will make you a vegetarian for life.

| I have the Manitou Black elite air | Roger Apr 17, 2002 11:24 AM | | I like the fork alot, very stiff laterally, smooth travel. Only gripe I have is that Manitou doesn't have a lockout for it. |
| It will slacken your head angle | shiggy Apr 17, 2002 11:26 AM | | because your frame was designed for a Kinesis rigid fork (non-suspension corrected.) |
| Seat angle, too | Spar¡cus Apr 17, 2002 11:52 AM | | And if you adjust your saddle forward to make up for it, then it'll shorten your top tube. One thing leads to another.

| I'll work on it tonight | ernesto Apr 17, 2002 1:50 PM | | I'll put the manitou on the bike tonight. I hope it doesn't suck that bad. I did used to have a Rock Shox Judy and the bike felt fine. Then I switched to the Kinesis and it kicks ass, but the Manitou? I don't know. I'll try. I am removing the fork from this frame: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1822284645
So I'll take a picture and you guys can critique it.
Hasta Luego,

| Chester and Sid | Drevil Apr 17, 2002 12:03 PM | | Hola! I did not like my Chester with my Sid (set at 80mm travel). I'm not absolutely sure, but I think that the Sid has an even shorter crown race-axle measurement than the Black. Putting a rigid on it made it handle much better, but I guess it's because it was designed for the shorter fork.
Just a thought, but do you have a shock on another bike you can swap out with, or a good friend that wouldn't mind letting you borrow theirs for a couple of rides? See how it feels, and think about whether you could get used to it. If your hands are hurting enough though, then I guess it'll be worth changing over. |
