| Tire suggestions | Magic Rat Apr 19, 2002 3:47 AM | | I'm looking for suggestions for tires for my rigid, aluminum SS. I'm 6'2" 190lb and ride on rooty singletrack. (When it's muddy, I'm on the road.) I was thinking about the 2.4 Motoraptors or Mutanoraptors. High volume without extreme tread is probably a good bet, eh? Anything's gotta be better than the 1.95s I have on there now. |
| the 2.4 WTBs are a good bet. | shiggy Apr 19, 2002 10:05 AM | | the Mutano is much lighter with a less aggressive tread. Another tire to look at is the Specialized Enduro 2.2, very nice tread and about the same size as the WTBs. The Pro model is priced well and reasonably light. Also the Conti Vertical ProTection 2.3. Grippy rubber but it is a smaller casing than the above tires.
I would look at the Hutchinson Ptyhon and Mosquito 2.0. Thaey have less tread but the casings are nearly as big as the above tires and the rubber is grippy. The Mosquito also comes in a 2.3 |
| Geax, also | GMF Apr 19, 2002 5:49 PM | | I have the Geax blade 2.? (the big size, can't remember off-hand, i think 2.3). It is actually a pretty good all around tire- fairly light, and it seems to have more volume than the 2.4 motoraptor and 2.5 weirwolf i also have. I'm just not running it right now because it has never seated quite right and has significant wobble side to side...
They are worth a look, though.

| WTBs... | Billy Apr 22, 2002 6:16 AM | | The 2.4 Motoraptor is great in the rocks and technical terrain but has high rolling resistance in the hardpacked dirt. The Mutanoraptor is great in dirt but sucks in the rocks. Just my $0.02. |
