| What chains would you recommend for SS? | CalMTB Jun 27, 2002 9:16 PM | | I converted my Spez and have been destroying my knees for over 4 months now and still loving it. I just noticed that my chain stretched over 3/8 in so i think it's time for a new one. What types of chain do you guys run? are there SS- or BMX-specific chains? I am looking for cheap and strong ones. Thanks. |

| modified power-link? | shiggy Jun 28, 2002 10:20 AM | | It is just a plain ol' master link as used on any non-derailleur chain. Even easier to use than a Powerlink IMO.
The main advantage of a SS chain is the side plates are deeper and stay on the cog better. The multi-gear chains have cut-away plates so they will shift better. |
| Didn't know what else to call it.... | eelpie Jun 28, 2002 11:19 AM | | it's not a "true" powerlink like on the other SRAM chains (i.e., the pins on the PC-1 are on the same link plate). And yes, I agree it's easier to use once you get the hang of it.
Never thought about that difference between SS chain plates and the others, but it certainly makes sense. |
| No worries | shiggy Jun 28, 2002 1:24 PM | | I remember looking for the master link on the chain of my first geared bike. Could not figure out how to get the chain off.
