| Longest one lap ss race in Az in 10 days | LEF-T Sep 11, 2002 10:22 AM | | The seventh annual Tour of the White Mountains will be Sept 21, 2002. This is the longest single lap, cross country race in Arizona. It's only 66 miles and 4328' elevation gain, you 100 miler dudes should have no trouble. It only takes 6 or 7 hrs, maybe a little more for me.
The course director Dave Mathews and the course marker, Mike Kunnecke, are fellow ss'ers. Cycle Mania asked for a ss class this year, we are giving away some cool prizes just for the ss'ers. I will be there on my rigid Surly 1x1 doing the 66.
We only have 5 ss'ers signed up for the 66 so far. For more info http://nrmc.org/twm/htm. |

I'm looking forward to riding with you. It should be a blast. What is the condition of the course. Mark K will be there and Jon Fleming both in single speed class ( Style man shall we pose ). Would you like a post ride brew or two?

| One word: Muddy! | Paul B Sep 13, 2002 10:45 AM | | Rudy,
Rode about 20 miles of it last weekend and it was muddy along a lot of it. A mix of thin baby poo and the really sticky gummy mud that weighs you down and gets in your derailleur. Oh wait.
Saturday night and all day Sunday was fairly heavy and consistent rain. My spies tell me there's been more rain up there since.
Thank God for the rain, but it's gonna be one messy, slippery race.
See you next weekend,
