BMX Bars & MTB Stems...(3 posts)

BMX Bars & MTB Stems...Badmonkey
Sep 11, 2002 10:38 PM
Just wondering if BMX handlebars will work with regular MTB stems like Thomson, or Kore? Will barends fit? I'd like to use a 5" rise cromo BMX bar on my SS. Thanks in advance!

Mountian bike h-bars have a larger diameter in the middle of the bar than that of bmx bars.

you could with shims of a sort (NO - NOT beer cans - quite dangerous)
similar to what you would find on those old answer riser bars or the cromo bontrager risers. Otherwise you COULD try and use a 1 1/8 bmx stem but the chances of finding a long one are slim to none.

yes BMX bars will work with MTB stems. Just make sure it has a face plate. Use a shim and yes bar ends will work.As will brake levers.By the by I have a BMX stem and MTB bars on my Mono Cog I bored out the stem on a milling machine.A riding buddy uses a BMX bar and BMX stem on his Mono Cog.
