Kona Kaboom frame weld cracking(6 posts)

Kona Kaboom frame weld crackingDeadgoat

Has anyone had a problem with the weld between the head tube and down tube on the Kona Kaboom. Frame is a 2000 bought last March. My buddies is cracked due to general riding, no drops or crashes. Bike shop says it looks like crash damage and says Kona factory may agree. Any comments or experiences?

Thanks

crankin' up Cox Hill in 34:18, what a sicko!!

tell him to buy that spanky new DeKerf ss in the shop!

From experience, Kona is pretty cool about warranty stuff, it'd be worth a shot to send it in, include a letter or phone call as well.

Hey Aaron,

How are things going over in the metro-Detroit area? Have you been able to take in some of the trails?

I just rode Poto and Gruber's Grinder (Holdridge Lakes) on my SS last weekend. I have some pics here if you're interested in checking them out.

Take it easy, and let me know if you get back around the GR area for a ride.

Later,
Craig

same thing happened to mine and several others I know of. I'm sending mine in tomorrow. i would definately warranty the frame. it's best to go through the shop it was purchased from or another kona dealer. also as far as i can tell the frames crack because there isn't a gusset at the headtube/downtube junction
