Give me your best frame advice!!!!!nigel7780

Ok here is the deal. I currently own one kick butt sexy as hell Soulcraft Plowboy (see below). But I am wanting another Unicogger to add to my stable and I am thinking why the heck not get a disc brake setup. Soooooo I could get another Soulcraft and have it set up for disc, and the whole eccentric bb and such, or I could get something elso that would ride great as well. So gimmie your thoughts on what frame I might like (and I love my soulcraft a lot) I am open to materials and price is not really an option, since the bike is built excpet the frame!!!!
Thanks all and I really appreciate the input seeing is how this board kicks ass!!!!

No such thing as a bike that rides better than a soulcraft. I have a geared and a single soulcraft both disc.

surlysoul,

How is your SS disc mount set up? Slotted mounting holes? Just curious.

I love

soulcraft will do a ebb if that is what you want. mine is not the front or upper mount is standard the rear is slotted and pivots allowing the caliper to sit higher I can slide my wheel in and out without moving the caliper. with the built in chain tensioners I can move the wheel evenly when I do gear changes so I don't have to mess with my brake adj.
There is a little less pad to rotor cantact than a traditional setup but I have not noticed any difference in braking.
If I ever get around to taking some pictures I will post them.

take a look over at:

http://www.lahar.co.nz

Click on the xc3.0, which they build in a single speed/ rholoff hub or derailered versions.

I was out riding the single speed version today on some rooty/muddy/steep terain.

I am still drooling. It was a built up test bike I borrowed for the afternoon, and I was very very impressed.

Like weight, carbon fibre, integrated suspension. If you are looking for something different from the norm, this could well be it.
How are they as far...nigel7780

as BB stiffness goes?? I torque the hell out of my bikes even though Im a little guy, and I like a fast climbing frame. They have an interesting look and Ive actually never thought of a carbon frame for a unicgogger, so its on my list now!!

I normaly ride a fully rigid steel frame, so I could definately feel a difference riding the softail carbon fibre design. Also I'm normally clipped in, and the bike we were testing had platforms, so I wasn't getting the same sort of torque going up the hills. It would realy be a try it and see thing. The suspension effect over roots and ruts was noticable, and is what won me over. I've had full sus xc bikes before, but this desing has no pivots, nothing to service, and just enough give to be forgiving through the rough stuff.

Your best bet may be to contact the Lahar people direct, and see what their testing results are. I know they are talking to american distributors now, so their might even be a chance to test ride a production frame in the near future.
Ill have to ask em...nigel7780

it is a really interesting design, I have owned just about everything out there as far as material, but never a softail, just fulls or hards in different materials. I would be curious to try a softail.

Douglas,

Will Soulcraft do EBBs? I assume that they might (since they do other custom work), I just hadn't heard of them ever doing one.

If you're just itchy to go to disc brakes and you love your Soulcraft so much, would it be possible to have an IS mount added somehow, and have the frame re-powdercoated by Soulcraft? I just saw this disc adapter on eBay the other day...don't know how it would work.

Im sure they can do them,....nigel7780

I like it quite a bit actually. Ive raced on Race Face Systems for a while which are/were (not made anymore) my favorites, and tried Thompson Elite (which Ill never recommend or try again their stems suck ass but their seatpins are the best!!) The Salsa SUL clamp design works great, its not a heavy stem at all, and is nice and beefy. I would say go for the Salsa its not a bad choice at all, and quite affordable for what you get.

Douglas,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking at Salsa because I'm going to need a 105mm stem (which not many manufacturers make).

I've had a few Thomson stems, and they all worked great. I'm not sure what you experienced with yours.

In any case, I think the Salsa will work out well for me. It's also about the same weight as the Thomson at about 1/2 the price.

I manage a shop and have been doing it for quite some time, and in general Thompson stems get the worst reveiw from me, I have used them and been very unhappy, especially for what you pay for em. The bolts are not good quality, and strip easily (at least for many customers but ya know how that goes) and the clamp design has much to be desired and there is no need for a 4 bolt face plate. All in all I have many people I know that love em, but they are not for me at all.....the Salsa on the other hand are great!!!
