Square-tapered, bashring-wearing Chester owners... BB size?(6 posts)

Square-tapered, bashring-wearing Chester owners... BB size?Drevil

Here's my conundrum. I want to use a bashring on my bike, but I don't know what size bottom bracket to use. My current setup is a Chester Utilitiman with Race Face Turbine LP cranks (58/94), 32T Black Spire chainring mounted on the "outer-chainring" position, with a 73 x 113 UN-72 bottom bracket. If it matters, I'm using a PC-58 chain.

If I try to mount my ring on the "middle-ring" position, it hits the chainstay. Anyone have an adjustable bottom bracket (Phil Wood, Race Face, etc.) on their Chester they'd recommend so I can keep using these cranks and mount the bashring on the outside? Thanks!

Ricky - I'm running the same cranks on mine with the Spot ring and bashguard. I went with the 73*113 Raceface adjustable BB and it has worked great. I definitely had to bring the adjustment in some to get the right chainline. The Raceface BB is pretty reasonably priced too, but you could surely pull a Ti spindled one out of the LBS in your basement, no? :-) cheeky grin......
I'll help you out...Allroy

I have a bashguard on my ride, why don't we just switch bike and you won't have too worry about it. I know it seems too good too be true, no needto thank me, after all what are friends for!

:^ )
even bigger cheeky grin...

Hey Ricky,

If you can measure how much extra room you need on the drive side you can multiply that by 2 and add it to your current spindle length. That will give you the size you need then get the closest available.

The square tapers come in a lot of sizes 115 118 122.5.

The adjustable BB's give about 5mm of lateral adj. which may or may not be enough and you "might" notice being a lttle off center at 5mm

By the way, Hamburg Rd/watershed ride this Saturday @ 9:30am if you and the gang are interested.
Thanks Erin, but...Drevil

...I made plans to go riding with an old friend, and he's in rougher shape than me, so we's going to Avalon. Catch up w/ you later!

I'm running a RF BB with Turbines, 34-tooth ring + FSA bash ring.
No problems.
