SS rear hub weight(2 posts)

SS rear hub weightmt
Nov 22, 2002 9:05 PM
Does anyone know how much a spot hub plus a freewheel weighs compared to a king hub with a king cog?
i found claimed weights of the CK hub to be 335 and the spot to be 252, so i guess the question is how much do freewheels and cogs weigh?
i imagine a regular hub with spacers and a cog may even be lighter than any freewheel + hub.

not that I am a weight weenie or anything.....
You only play a weight weenie on TVnalax

How much does the difference in quality weigh between the King freehub/cog combo versus BMX freewheel? Isn't that what you should be asking?
Any true weight weenie would have an aluminum cog on their King rather than a lump of crap BMX freewheel that's destined for the junk pile.
Anyhoo, my test. The difference between the King and Spot is a few grams more than a Powerbar. Hefting a dead freewheel in my hand feels like a bunch of Powerbars. So I see the total difference as several Powerbars. Weight advantage to King.
A regular King hub set up to SS is prolly lighter that a SS King but not by much. King + aluminum cog=sweet
