Why is Jericho advertising 34T 94mm rings in their banner?!?(25 posts)

Why is Jericho advertising 34T 94mm rings in their banner?!?DeeEight
Mar 28, 2003 10:50 AM
What's the big deal about a 94mm pattern 34T ring?!? Vuelta and Avitar
have had them for years. I sell the non-ramped vuelta ones for $38cdn.
DUH, because they ARE NOT Vuelta or Avitar!gonzostrike

c'mon Upie, your scratch-n-dent merchandise is old news, we all know that if we want prime early 1990s parts, you're the man.

Jericho custom machines their rings. They don't look or feel anything like your old stamped-metal tripe.

Also they are NOT available in purple anodized Al.

I'm thinking it was around 94 or so when he was still racing for Klein. He did the Norba circuit driving a van with his girl friend to the races. I met him down in Bloomington, IN and he was a very friendly guy, down to earth.

I don't recall rattling my zipper so why the rush Gonzo...DeeEight
Mar 29, 2003 11:19 AM
to give me lip?

Vuelta CNC machines their rings from 6061T6 (mid/outer, the same material Jericho uses for their 110-5bolt rings) and 7075T6 (inner)
and the 34T-94mm unramped ring I described only comes colors other than Purple. And jow much custom machining do you need for a freaking chainring to fit a 94mm crank!?? Seems to me only a complete moron would pay $75US for a chainring that's NO better than what Vuelta and Avitar make and sell for $25 for a 5-bolt crankset. Guess you and Zonic fit the bill though.

Talking out your A-hole again I see.
Are you f-ing kidding me upie?Zonic Man

Your 80's crap couldn't hold a candle to Josh's works of art.

Ugh, why do I bother. You're pitiful.
No, It seemed like a question that wouldn't attract the fuckwadsDeeEight
Mar 29, 2003 11:22 AM
but apparently I was mistaken as you and Gonzo were so attracted.

Vuelta rings aren't 80s crap. Vuelta is one of the largest aftermarket
chainring brands at the moment. Perhaps you should learn a few things before
whining when I ask a perfectly valid question. I fail to see the reason to
advertise in a banner about having a commonly available (from other brands)
size of chainring coming out. I've seen 94mm-34T rings from (besides Vuelta
and Avitar) Kooka, Middleburn, Blackspire, RaceFace, and several others.
Can we say "fuckwads" on mtbr?Sparty
Mar 29, 2003 7:51 PM
Golly, I didn't think we were 'sposed to use naughty words like that.

P.S. I dunno what one of those is, but anyway I don't think I am one. I run standard BCD cranks. Whew!

Ever notice its the old farts who love 74/110 ?DeeEight
Mar 30, 2003 12:49 PM
All these young kids who think compact is the best. I have ONE crank out of all
my bikes that I use myself, that's compact. Hell, my all-mountain project bike
is getting an AC crank with a 58/110 spider. 110 is best!
Old fart?Sparty

I can't deny that. :D

I agree witcha, 110 is the cat's meow, the deerhunter's accordian. I believe that the introduction of "compact" drive systems was nothing more than a marketing ploy to bring something "new" to the market; an effort to out-mode the drive components everybody already had hanging off their frames.

Compact sucks more, wears out faster, etc. The only advantage I can see for it is, well, singlespeeding. A 32t ring plus the plethora of available cogs would offer me an optimum range of gearing, I think... although I get by pretty well with my 110x33t ring, so no biggie.

Boone Ti 33T?DeeEight
Mar 30, 2003 4:22 PM
Nope, chainrings.com. But I do have a set of custom Boone...Sparty
Mar 30, 2003 6:24 PM
...202mm twist cranks. 110 spider, of course.

As for the 33t ring, even though it's a 1/8" model, it's wearing out rather rapidly. Good news is it's flipable. And I bought two so I'm good for at least another couple years. But eventually I'd like to go with a ti 33t ring... who makes 'em? Only Boone? Does Action Tec as well?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Mr. Eight.

--Sparty
Well Jericho claims to make 33T rings but their Ti ones are...DeeEight
Mar 31, 2003 7:52 AM
$300...LOL... what do they do, get Jenna Jameson to give the cutting machine
oral before it does its magic on the Ti plate?

Boone used to be the only one making 33T rings period for 110mm, but I think
he's strictly a wedding ring guy now.

ActionTec still makes Ti rings and they're ELS/ELS Heat-Treated ones
do last a long time. I don't think it'd be a problem for them to make one
in 33T or in a 1/8" pitch either.
I think they make themsteelbike
Mar 29, 2003 8:10 PM
because they can but probably don't sell a lot of them but perhaps enough to supply the demand. Jericho advertises for one market of SS and Surly does for another. One isn't better than the other.

For me, chainrings are pretty much a disposable item so I probably wouldn't consider a Jericho ring unless it lasted 3-4 times longer and performed better. Kind of like freewheels, I'll get a White since it lasts longer and works better.
If Jericho made a ring in purple that would last for 3-4 years for a decent price, I might get one.

Now that I've bored everyone, stop namecalling and go have a beer
They do last 3-4 times longer.....Zonic Man
Mar 30, 2003 9:34 PM
And they perform better by being stiffer.

They are a serious upgrade.

Upie, you're a tool. Go snurfle one of your many shitty bikes.
Right... stiffer...that's comical...DeeEight
Mar 31, 2003 8:48 AM
one ring made out of 6061T6 is going to be stiffer than another. Uh huh... and last longer right...likely story. Just can't accept the fact that you're paying for the Jericho name and not any better quality can you?

Oh wow, you called my bikes shitty, aren't you original. Didn't know
you were in gradeschool still. It explains why you're such a fuckwad.

you guys stand out like a noisy derailleur in here. B cool. -nmHollywood
