| Any climbing technique sites around? | Jrm Mar 28, 2003 4:09 PM | | Thanks to everyone for your help with gearing. I gotta say that i really dig the 32:18. I noticed today that as my body tires i cant rely on strength. Once i got all wobbly on sustained climbs i'd stop and say OK, slow candence, steady the upper bod and coordinate the pulling up of the arms with the pushing down of the pedals. I'd be able to do this for a while then id just turn to shlt from leg and upper bodyover fatique. So im looking for a site that might give me some pointers on climbing technique. Ahh its beer thirty and the warriors are playing the 76er's and it hurts to type too. |

| Fat old guys like us... | Fast Eddy Mar 31, 2003 11:39 AM | | ...need to revisit the basic calisthenics. Push-ups and pull-ups. Riding SS a lot will help, but more direct training on those muscle groups will help more. I don't know about you, but a few hundred sit-ups and toe-touches wouldn't hurt my physique either.
I actually used to think I'd never be able to ride SS off-road the way I do now. I didn't think I could ever get in good enough shape.
Aside from that, I have a few other rhythms I can get into besides what you're describing, which I call "bmx cranking". While seated, I try to spin, but add a rowing motion, so my upper body is helping the forward motion somewhat. If I go back and forth between these two motions, I can keep going almost indefinitely. It really freaks out the granny-gearies. |
