Demo forest on Memorial Day with TimL(5 posts)

Demo forest on Memorial Day with TimLaka brad

It was the perfect day in Santa Cruz. The ride started at 9:30 with temps in the 60's. Within an hour is was sunny and in the 70's. I met up with TimL and we climbed the 13 miles to the entrance to Demo Forest. Here's a photo.

We didn't stop for a lot of photos, but here is one of the new obstacles ar Sawpit. Here's a respectable log crossing;

Here's a new log ramp with Tim at the beginning (a moment later he slipped off, but no harm done; you couldn't get me up there).

Here's the other side.

That's it for the photos. Once we made it to the bottom of Sawpit we rode to Sulphur Springs, back up to the Ridge Route, to Braille, down Braille, then up the fire road to Highland, to Buzzard Lagoon, back up to the point and back down to Nisene. The ride was about 50 miles with 4500 feet of climbing. TimL says it is the longest ride he's done. He also said he made it because to keep pace with me he had to keep slowing down. Hey it sounded like a compliment to me and at my age they come few and far between. At the end Fish tacos as promised.

It was a great day, thank you Tim and I'll see you at Auburn.

Who's da man? You two are. That's a big ride. The climbing is probably more like 5500 feet.

I was at Sawpit on Saturday with a group of 12! That trail is a real gem now. Aside from all the stunts and jumps, the fast rutted trail was converted to a long stretch of the twistiest singletrack. Unreal!

Nice pics and ride report!!

Francis is right, that's over a mile of climbing. I was going to come, but I couldn't drag myself out of the house in time. My son and I were there at the same time as you. We were at the top at 1pm.
Sorry I couldn't make itDoug B.

For one the Billy Cross really kicked my but. There was 1100' of climbing per lap. With my 34:18 I was hurting. I was still up to ride monday, but got last minute spousal veto since this is her finals week and she is running out of study time. Count me in for the next loop though.

Brad, thanks for the ride and the tacos too. I was definitely complimenting you on the pace setting. My typical "go faster" mentality usually leads to a rapid demise in power (I get gassed) The continuous even pace made the ride enjoyable because I never got that "I am wrecked and I can't turn the pedals" feeling all day. I did use all I I brought with me.

I tell you though, I am a little worked today. The morning 12 mile commute was just a little slower than usual. Par for the course it has been a busy day at work also.

See you on the next ride. Let's compare notes from the preride of the Auburn course also.

Cheers
Tim
