CXP-33 rims, Surly rear hub, Hugi front hub, cutdown Profile
cowhorn bars, Truvativ SS cranks, XT V brakes, Kenda 35mm
'cross tires, 42:16

It's my commuter, bar bike, and off season trainer.... it
rocks! Done a couple centuries and a MS Tour on it as well.
No pix, though.

A swell, stout, fun, comfortable rig. I likes it.

Also SS, to replace my Sunn Cycloss gearie. I want a fun yet fast spare CX race bike. When things get really messy, I may opt for the Surly even in Super Prestige races, now that'd be cool!
The Cross-Check appears to offer a very simular effective riding position to my custom Duratec 1x9 racer, making it a great second bike. I love both my Surly Karate Monkey and Pacer, and the Sunn never was my favorite. It also seems to flex a bit too much for an aluminum.

I've switched the bars to flats with bar ends which required also a different stem, but otherwise it's pretty much the same bike as in the photos.

Bought the bike used, pulled off the shifting apparatii, built a back wheel with a Surly 1x1 hub. Added used LX V-brakes, used Tektro levers. New Spot chainring guard, new Power Grips toeclips. All the rest is junk bits from my parts pile. 42x17 makes it versatile.

Commuting every day since January on it, and secretly declare it to be my favorite bike of them all. Today is its very first scheduled post-work recreational offroad ride. I'll update you.

Mmmmmm.

Was very surprised to be able to push this gear (42x17) up moderate singletrack hills, though I was required to wheeze like a stuck pig and go about 10mph faster than anyone else on trail. Some guys with more spandex than me were quite perturbed when their MTBs just wouldn't go fast enough to keep up. Another degree of incline and their granny gears woulda been looking pretty good to me.
