| pics of my new Mono-cog drivetrain.. w/Phil BMX hub | SnowMonkey Jul 24, 2003 6:37 PM | | My new Phil Wood flip-flop phlight BMX hub arrived yesterday, thus completing my new drivetrain for my Mono-cog.
sure is nice!.. Looks great & spins like butter~ :>)
I'd like to say ~THANKS~ to Brent @ Phill Wood for responding to my previous post & hooking me up with an awsome deal on this hub,.. |
| Other new goodies.. | SnowMonkey Jul 24, 2003 6:51 PM | | 34t Black Spire Epic chainring,
18t Shimano MX freewheel
SRAM PC-7X chain
Redline tensioners
I'm pretty stoked to go ride now that I've finished the rebuild.
Too bad its raining buckets & i'm sittin here in my underware.. |
| Is the BS Epic an 8or9 speed ring? | rpet Jul 25, 2003 7:41 AM | | that hub is sweet.
-rob |
| Nope, Mines not anyway... | SnowMonkey Jul 25, 2003 9:48 AM | | Theres no ramps or pins on it & it works ok,.. seems to be kindof a cheap-o ring compared to a spot or even my old rocket ring..
Its probably fine, but the ring doesn't quite align with the tabs on my crankarm.. The holes are right & it seems stout, but the edge of the tabs on the ring don't line up with the edges of the tabs on the crank.. Looks a little sloppy up close. But oh well, I'm not worried about it. |
| Other new goodies.. | ezzpete Jul 25, 2003 9:38 AM | | whoa! what's up with the spokes on that wheel in the background? |
| Double Twist Triple Cross or somthing.. | SnowMonkey Jul 25, 2003 9:55 AM | | I Picked that one up at my LUBS for cheap.. (If you ever make it to Anchorage check out The Bike Exchange)
Its laced with a double twist & a triple cross pattern or somthing like that. I'll post a better pic when I get home. |
| Is that a 2,4 motoraptor on the back? | dogbreath Jul 25, 2003 10:41 AM | | and does it have enough room? I'm thinking about buying a monocog. |
| RE: Is that a 2,4 motoraptor on the back?... | SnowMonkey Jul 25, 2003 11:25 AM | | Yep,.. 2.4 Motoraptors on the front & rear.
They both fit fine.. You can get a 2.6" on the front.
I'm running my chain long enough that my hub is about 3/4 of the way back in the dropout.. I've got almost a quarter inch of clearance on either side of the back tire.
The only thing that concearns me is,
Am I going to be able to use my flip flop with a 14t without switching chains too?.. I havn't tried yet, but I doubt it.. I'm going to find out if it'll work in a couple of days & I'll post back.
I might need a half link to get it just right.. |
| Whoever built it must'v had too much time on their hands.. | SnowMonkey Jul 25, 2003 11:03 AM | | I just found another pic of that wheel on my computer here at work, so here ya go.. |
| What bar & stem combo would you'all suggest?.. | SnowMonkey Jul 25, 2003 11:44 AM | | I'm about 6'1" 250 & a real rigid masher. I've never even riden anything with suspension.
What bar & stem combo would you'all suggest I use to get a similar ride height to my 6" rise BMX bars & 0 rise Bontreger BMX stem..
I'm looking to lose all that extra weight & gain a little flexability, but I still need tha strength..
I was considering 28" wide 2.5" rise Azonic double wall bars & either a Salsa MotoAce stem or a Planet X 3bolt stem.. but I don't know what rise & length to go with.
What do you all think?..
Hmm, Or maybe I'll just get low rise bars & run a 29" wheel in the front.
I think one would fit in my stock fork..
Has anyone tried this? |
| shiggy's done the 29/26 thing | slowSSer Jul 25, 2003 12:00 PM | | and seems to be happy with it-
I think he has a small review over on the 29er board (bored?) |
| Heck yeah I'm bored.. | SnowMonkey Jul 25, 2003 4:07 PM | | I've been stuck in my storage room/office for hours on end,..
In the process of scanning millions of title company documents on my Fujitsu M4097D.
I'm finally allmost outa' here,.. can't wait to head up the hillside to ride the twisties.. I found an extra sweet mile of downhill single track the last time I was out there.. Lots-o-climbin' to get there though.. I can't quite clear it all yet, but I'm thinkin' I could with 34:20 which means I'll probably be getting an ENO freewheel soon.
|
| I do not reccommend it | shiggy©® Jul 27, 2003 10:00 AM | | The 29" front wheel slackens the angles about 2°. It was not a big deal on my steep-angled Chester. But then I did back-to-back trail loops (about 3.5 miles each) with 29" and 26" front wheels and the handling is
i much
better with the 26 - the way the frame was designed. |
| What part of Alaska are you from? | SS Jerry Jul 25, 2003 6:42 PM | | I see the grey-ish silt of glacier water in the river. I visit the Kenai Peninsula once a yaer, it is pretty nice.

| I'm from Anchorage.. | SnowMonkey Jul 26, 2003 12:49 PM | | The above picture of my bike was taken in the Eklutna river valley, about a mile from the glacier, which is Anchorage's water source...
Here's a a pic I snapped while out on my hillside ride last night.
Theres coutless miles of trails starting right across the street from my apartment. |
