Wow, PROPS to the SS worldPhoenixKen

I have been riding heavy bikes uphill for about 2 years and last night I tried to climb the Mormon/National loops on ym P1 and it kicked my a-s.

I thought 47 pounds with 9 speeds was harder than a lighter single, I was WrONG!
It's just a matter of getting used to it...terminaut

I've been lugging my RFX up some good climbs on recent rides, and I'd say the effort is about the same. Once you get used to riding a single (in the appropriate gear ratio for your conditioning and terrain) it's not really harder or easier than a big bike with gears - just a little different. One could argue that the total energy used is more because of the added weight on a DH bike, but in practice I don't notice it.

I have a 2:1 on my P1. I rode my RFX all over South then got a Fly and at 47 pounds with a 38 up front I dropped a lot of XC riders. This SS seems tougher to me, I will report back in a month or so.

2:1 seems sort of high to start out with at SoMo. I wouldn't have any fun pushing that ratio on some of the techy climbs there. I don't even think AlexH runs that!

What a gem that park is, though!

Dude. Term, did you make that landing? That looks insane! I'd like to see the video of that one.

I don't even own any bikes with gears, brah! ;-)

I did it two years ago on my ss at 34:18. 2:1 on that is probably a bit tall.

On a specialized P1 bike? Hardly a bike that's set up for climbing.

Can you clean the waterfall on that bike though??

Who can clean the waterfall?? It was my only nemesis when I rode there a couple of years ago. I would love to spend some time on it now after riding SS solid for a couple more years and improving technical skills. I have done it in my mind and imagined how it can be done but I never saw anyone do it. I am talking about climbing it, not the descent.

I use to try and clean the waterfall all the time on my RFX. THen I switched to flat pedals and it got too tough. I could almost do it but the top part of the bottom section is tough. The upper waterfall is a breeze though.

As for people clearing the waterfall I see it done on occasion. Once I was trying over and over and the guy with the horn on his helmet flies right through. So yes there are those that have done it my buddy did about 95 percent of it in his M1 and has cleared it on other bikes.

I have yet to try it on the SS, I can not imagine it being too easy though. Going down is another story..........

Only reason I'd want to bonk you in the head would be the fact that I would see you heading to S.Mtn in the morning while I was on my way to work with the rest of the world. But I'll give you props for being smooth as you out-rode everyone at Thumb Butte last summer while I was tattooing my ankle with my chainring. Good grub afterwords at the Gurly Street Grill though ;-) Don't still ride trials do you?
