| VooDoo...Back at it? (x-post) | jakers... Sep 19, 2003 5:25 PM | | I saw some photo's of VooDoo bike at EuroBike '03...
Are they back? If so, does anyone know when they will be selling frames again?
I really want to pick up the SOBO... any info?
Does anyone know how much that bad boy cost when they came out (before VooDoo went bankrupt)?
The paint is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Please let me know, so I can at least dream with a definitive future...
Gracias in advance...
Also, does anyone know what frames Joe Murray made for Kona? The Kula Primo, I would guess... |
| re: VooDoo...Back at it? (x-post) | Cloxxki Sep 20, 2003 12:02 AM | | Turns out, they never really went away in Asia. People riding 2001, 2002 and 2003 VooDoo's. The company was never bankrupt, just ceased to exist. Now, the company won't have a US headquarters anymore, it seems, but run from Japan/Taiwan.
I've received word from VooDoo, the Sobo may be produced and send out as soon as november of this year. A full-blown comeback is scheduled for the 205 season. The Sobo was unbelievably beautiful up close, shifting colors as light falls on it from a different angle.
Consumer prices will differ in any reagoin, and won't be quite low in the beginning, as all starts are difficult. If I'm able to make a good educated guess, I'll get back about it. (I'm in the run for a distributorship for Holland or Western Europe).
Don't put your hopes up too much, but make sure you always have some spare cash on your account, there's not much that beats a light VooDoo hardtail. A buddy of mine rides pro bikes, but whenever he get the chance, he prefers to race his Sobo, and he just seems much faster on it than on a Giant MCM, watching him from the sidelines.
Happy trails,
J

| I have heard only good things about VooDoo | jakers Sep 20, 2003 11:14 AM | | Hey Cloxxki,
Are you in Amsterdam? Vague memories of your Karate Monkey on 'Dam streets. I'm going to be out there in ~May sometime, maybe we can go for a ride or something...
As far as VooDoo, my mouth waters looking at the pictures of th Sobo and I can only imagine that it was that much more beautiful in real life.
I was thinking about getting a Kona Kula Primo... but now I don't know. |
| I have heard only good things about VooDoo | Cloxxki Sep 20, 2003 11:42 AM | | Actually, only about 4 or 5% of the Dutch population lives in Amsterdam. I live near Rotterdam, one of the world's biggest harbours.
I think the good think about VooDoo, the owner is real close to the source, the Taiwanese factories. He's also the Titec owner and a big Shimano distributor, everything just comes together. Build quality always was super, paint most of the times good, sometimes less than perfect. Newest samples seem to be of the former kind.
Joe's geometry just works, and does so for most riders, from recreational to pro racers. I know the geometry figure almost by heart, but it's still magic. More than 9 out of 10 just love the VooDoo's, I know a former pro racer that had his Bokor painted in Fuji colors, to at least be sure to have a perfect bike. One veteran racer sent his Bokor to the sponsor to perfectly copy it.
My custom CX bike is a mix of both my Bokor and the VooDoo CX geometry, and it just works for me.
The changes of you riding a Sobo in the 2003 year are slim to say the least, but keeping an eye out to get one when it becomes available anywhere in the world, that sure can't hurt. |
| Good Old Rotterdam... | jakers Sep 20, 2003 12:14 PM | | Apologies about the Amsterdam/Rotterdam thing. I've heard Rotterdam is beautiful, but you live near there... So I don't know. Can you speak Dutch?
I'll just have to keep my ears to the pipeline and my fingers crossed.
Thanks for the help! Were you at EuroBike? |
| Good Old Rotterdam... | Cloxxki Sep 20, 2003 9:50 PM | | Rotterdam was bombed to the ground in the 2nd WW< so if there's anything beautiful, it's new too.
Yeah, I'm a Dutchie, speak dutch, pay my own food, all that sorta thing :-)
Eurobike is a once-a-year trip I make for work, 500miles from here by car, about the southest part of Germany. I spoke to the VooDoo owner (as last year) and Joe Murray there. This year they had things that looked more like news, like the Dambala 29"that I must have, in a size Joe hasn't designed yet. |
| Cool.. | jakers Sep 21, 2003 4:29 PM | | I guess using that phrase Good Old, just doesn't fit. Sorry for my ignorance, again.
I just fell in love with all the Dutch people I met while I was on the trains and in Amsterdam. I know it's not a lot to gauge a whole country on but it was definitely nice.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the VooDoo SOBO makes it's ways to US shelves or at least to a nice U.K, distributor.
THANKS |
