ok, so i switched out chains at 12-1/16" stretch. on the single speed the bike now makes a noise on the power stroke that sounds kind of like front derailuer rub but more clicky. i can feel a corresponding vibration in the frame too. the chain wont skip under load but still makes this really anoying and bad sound at even light power stroke.

could it be that my chainring is that worn already? it doesnt look too bad...

was wondering if it might because my chainline is off and a new and laterally stiff chain is catching the side of the chainring as it wraps onto the chainring?

thx for any insights

hey thanks, i forgot about old sheldon b. i bookmarked it for future reference. i think part of the problem might be also that the new chain i put on is a new old stock chain that probably has bushings. this might account for the rubbing as the chain tries to ride onto the chainwheel at an angle. bushing chains are less flexible laterally. this i learned from sheldon... its probably also the case that the chainwheel teeth are a little ramped now...

anyway thanks!
