ok,now that i'm clear on chains/sprocket/chainwheels which chains have you people had the most success w/? from the reviews it looks like they all suck except the rohloff. don't want to spend that kind of money on a chain and suspect that people in this forum have had success w/ other cheaper chains.

i think maybe the only people motivated to do chain reviews are the ones who are pissed off.

from time to time the mailorder places blow out cheap chains they took off of complete bikes, so they're just long enough for the bikes' stock gearing. That means they're plenty long enough for SS use. Thing about SSing, it tends to wear out chains a lot faster than riding with gears, and from my experience, chain longevity has no relation to its purchase price, so go cheap and replace often. I laid in a couple dozen OEM Sachs chains a few years back for $2 a pop. Been using them on gearie bikes, SS, fixed gear, road, and have yet to have any problems with one of them. Go cheap, I say.

KMC BMX/Single Speed chains(model 410), hands down (unless you are using a Surly Singleator) Forget all of the hype about more "technology" and R&D being put in 8 and 9 speed chains, these will last as long as you need them to and cost under $10. For a bonus, grab one of the Rustbuster versions.
