| Props to them.... | SS Jerry Nov 13, 2003 9:01 PM | | I was in downtown SF today attending a training class (bummer, no overtime today), and everyone went to lunch. We were walking down near Market street and I spied this batch of bike messengers on Fixies.
Needless to say I ditched my group and spent my lunch hour talking to a guy on a custom Adams. Super cool bike and the messengers have got to be the coolest guys/girls.
I wish I was 25 years younger and no responsibilities.... I would love to do it for a summer in SF.
They ride tuff and climb the SF hills like MoFo's.
All my respect.

| so... | Hollywood Nov 14, 2003 10:04 AM | | what's the scoop?
Cool job? Pain in the ass? Rain or shine, right?
I'd love to hear from someone who's been there if it's as cool as most of us think it would be.
thanks

| re: RESPECT!! to the fixie guys... | JerseyDevil Nov 14, 2003 5:40 AM | | I was in NYC watching the road race there 2 years ago, and after watching all the fixie riders zipping around with such grace and balls, I had to have one! I went out and bought one the next weekend. I love that thing. |
| re: RESPECT!! to the fixie guys... | itsdoable Nov 14, 2003 8:30 AM | | Ya, ran into a few during the Worlds in Hamilton this year. Cool people.
On another note, how many of you out there ride fixed off-road? Been doing it for ~1year, but I just broke my mtb fixie on wednesday night - my 18t cog stripped the threads off my fixie hub during a climb...
Cheers,

| mtb fixed is fantabulous | redhaze Nov 14, 2003 5:26 PM | | been takin it out for about a year now too. just lots of fun and it really improves my skills. put it away for a few months right now, just gonna ride one bike and take it easy to let the summer injuries heal up.
fixed mtb urban is a hoot too.

| mtb fixed is fantabulous | itsdoable Nov 16, 2003 2:13 PM | | Yes, I saw your video - my riding buddies thought I was uniquely crazy trying logs & skinnies on a fixie until they saw your video - now they know there's more than one.
It definitely impoves skills, and makes a routine commute interesting again.
Cheers, Tom |
