| SSing is secondary to my winter sports... | onehotchili Nov 13, 2003 2:44 PM | | which include skiing (telemark, alpine & XC) at the resorts and backcountry. i also do mountaineering and climbing.
being a former competitive DH ski racer, biking has always been an "off-season" activity... |
| Uh...snowboarding. (nm) | SDizzle Nov 13, 2003 2:45 PM | | Snowboarding? |
| skiing | qtip Nov 13, 2003 2:56 PM | | Telemark, resort and back country. I'll throw on the alpine boards once in a while, but free-heeling is so similar to ss (in my opinion) that I'm addicted to it too.
After I graduated college I spent a season working at Alta (local resort) and skiied every day....best job of my life.
I also enjoy snow shoeing with my wife. |
| Tele-skiing... | JAK Nov 13, 2003 3:02 PM | | and am STOKED for it! Both on and off piste. I also plan on taking my newly converted SyCip fix'd rig on some snowy trail rides. Free the heel, but not the wheel...thats how I'm thinking 'bout this winter. |

| Snowboarding and hopefully ... | PROGRE-SS Nov 13, 2003 3:07 PM | | ...if the weather gets well below freezing, I'll be building a backyard rink for my boys and myself to skate on.

| cross country skiing | Chequama Mama Nov 13, 2003 3:24 PM | | For me singlespeeding is what I do to keep myself entertained, and in shape for the ski season.
We'll have snow any day now...
I hope

| riding bikes in shorts & short sleeves... | offroadie Nov 13, 2003 3:26 PM | | and skiing, usually in Tahoe.
sure, we/ve got wildfires, earthquakes, flash floods & gans, but hey, we can ride year-round! ;-) |

| Riding on snow | ernesto from Wisconsin Nov 13, 2003 3:40 PM | | I really enjoy riding the hardpack if possible. I've accummulated many snow biking miles when I lived in Illinois and Colorado. Now, being back in WI, I can't wait to do a snow biking jaunt on the white gnome stuff.
BTW, the picture there is of me riding near Pollock Pines near Sacramento this past January. it was nice and warm, but under the trees, plenty of snow. |
| Snow.... We don' need no stinkin' snow! | SS rif Nov 13, 2003 5:21 PM | | Heck, when it gets below 70, I break out the sweats!
I'll watch the weather channel, and when it starts to snow in the north woods, I'll lift a glass to the hearty souls, put on my shorts, and go for a ride in the great southwest! I love the desert! |
| Ditto the free-heel skiing | GlowBoy Nov 13, 2003 9:20 PM | | Not surprising lots of SSers also find appeal in the simplicity of backwardness of telemark skiing.
I ditched the conventional downhill gear 10 years ago when I realized I didn't need it anymore. I'm a full-time pinhead now: backcountry, lift-served or good ole cross-country. Probably more of the latter this year now that I have a new Lab dog. |
| Snowboarding.. | MellowCat Nov 13, 2003 11:26 PM | | use to Tele all the time, but the board has taken over now. Usually ride my MTB on snow more than I snowboard though. |

| With good solid cable bindings ... | GlowBoy Nov 14, 2003 6:58 PM | | There isn't that much difference in stability between tele and downhill gear. And tele gear lets you ski telemark style or parallel. Your choice. |
| or try a Plate Binding like... | onehotchili Nov 14, 2003 10:20 PM | | the Bomber Bishop (http://www.bombertele.com/). i will be using this binding this year with a pair of Volkl Explosiv's as my everyday Tahoe setup. i demoed the bindings last year and they rail like i was on a totally fixed heel setup. |
| Snowboarding, backcountry stuff..... | 2melow Nov 14, 2003 7:27 AM | | I didn't get a season pass anywhere this year, so i'll be hitting Cameron Pass hopefully once a week.
Yum........ |
| Snowboarding, backcountry stuff..... | TrevorInSoCal Nov 15, 2003 1:56 AM | | I realize that picture could be just about anywhere, but it's not, perchance just above Chair 3 (Face Lift) at Mammoth is it?
Looks kind of like it, what with the lift cables going up off to the right, and the little stand of trees, just about where they'd be above chair 3...
Oh, to keep it on topic My winter sport of choice is snowboarding. Went up for opening weekend at mammoth last weekend. At least i did *something* 'cause I sure haven't been riding much lately. 70-mile road ride about 3-weeks ago and nada since then except for a couple trips downtown (~2 mi.) on the fixie.
