| Anyone know the diameter | SpecialSSauce Jan 12, 2004 7:42 PM | | of the threads for freewheel and threads per inch? are they metric or standard? i need to get my hub fixed the first few threads are beat up and i can't get my freewheel on. i'm thinking of taking it to a machine shop to get the threads dyed or tapped or whatever its called. i would appreciate any help suggestions. |
| 1.37" X 24 tpi that's the thread size for frewheels, etc... | gspot Jan 12, 2004 8:04 PM | | also the same as track cogs, bottom bracket shell threading, etc.
thats assuming that this is a standard size freewheel hub. there are some bmx hubs that use a smaller metric standard, although chances are slim that you own a hub like this.
good bike shops should have this tap as a service. it'll only cost a few buxx. my shop chages $ 5 - 15, depending on severity.
I don't know if a machine shop will have this tap, as I believe its pretty bike specific. your best bet is to rake it to a knowlegeable shop. |
| try chasing it with English adjustable cup lock ring. | club Jan 13, 2004 7:48 AM | | that's the same thread as BSA freewheel hub threading. If you can get it started you might be able to coax it forward, back off, repeat repeat, use some oil while doing so, until you clear the buggered threads. worth a shot, it won't make things worse. |
