Have I gone MAD!!!!????Kenny©

What you see below is a crappy copy of my official entry form for the upcoming Bowness Nationals here in the wonderful Canadian rockies. Sounds unimpressive enough doesn't it? Just a race in beautiful Kananaskis country, Alberta amoungst 150 fellow friendly mountain bikers.

WRONG!

Imagine if you will riding your favorite weekend ride at your regular weekend pace. Now imagine doing that EIGHT FREAKING TIMES in a row and as fast as humanly possible the whole way (note to self...buy more life insurance).

The race is a loop of about 8 (depending upon how you define the trails) of some of the nastiest trails in K country (also some of my favorite); 80km in total. Now I know that there are a lot longer races out there and likely a lot tougher but, hey, this is me....weekend warrior, wannabe racer me. AND to top it off the race is two weeks from now (they delayed it from this coming weekend) and there is already snow collecting up in the mountains (at least from what I can see out the window up here on floor 23). What have I done??!?!?!

So I am both excited and scared (more scared) and just had to share this with a whole bunch of complete strangers (some stranger than others....right celly :P).

Sounds fun!Roger

Why would anyone want to do that crap to themselves? ;-) Didn't Ford blow his brains out on that one last year? ;-)

Good luck, anyhow.

When you have as little opportunity to ride as I have had this year you have to pack in as much as you can into those days that you get to head out. I figure this would take 6-8 weekends of riding to accomplish at my ordinary pace; great bang for your buck! You want to grab Spike and pre-ride with me next Sunday??? ;)

Not sure if Ford did this last year or not. I think he and a few others I know were planning on it. I was going to pass on this and hadn't gotten in in time for the last cut-fff but got "peer-pressured" into it by another bike nut in the office (wason the waiting list and somebody backed out - DAMMIT).

Ford did do it last year....celly

He DNF'd if I recall.

Y'know John Gibson? He's that photog dude whose work often graces the covers and pages of "BIKE". He finished 2nd last year, not far behind the winner. Had some crazy time as well.

We're off to Oregon/Washington next weekend. The gathering is the following weekend, but we're going to explore for a while before we get to Bend. Wish you were there.

I hear ya re: not having enough time to ride. Fortunately, Spike and I can just leave the rabbit in the cage, then head out to the mountains at will. Try to do that with Noel. ;-)

We're doing Moose Mountain tomorrow. All the way to the summit from Station Flats. Then down Moosepackers etc., back to Station Flats. Can't wait. No hammerheads allowed. We want to enjoy the splendor, as well as the ride. You guys are too fast for us slowpokes. ;-)

Try Chris. He might do it with you.

TGIF.

I heard that there was some accumulation up on Cox Hill! Should melt before too long though.

We rode that same route (me for the first time) about 3 weeks ago after work one day. It was an absolute blast (apart from the road climb....grunt!). I think the gang was through in just under 2 hours (including three flats amongst us!). Have fun.

2 hours, to the summit? (i.e. the lookout)celly

i.e. to 8000', then back down to Moosepackers, etc. Dave, we'll never ride together again.
DUH....celly

I meant, two hours from Station Flats, up Moose Mtn Road, then up to the summit of Moose Mtn (including lookout), back down the switchbacks, then to Moosepackers, and back to Station Flats.

You're a machine, Mr. F. We cannot ride together any longer. ;-)

I can't make out your Visa #, please repost. ;-)

Yes, you have gone mad. But good luck! I'd say have fun, but I don't think that is possible. I'm sure you'll feel great once you've finished though.

Me preride it? Bwa ha ha ha ha ha!
