Babble about bees, ballgames and buddies. (3 posts)
| Babble about bees, ballgames and buddies. | Bikebreath Sep 10, 2001 8:38 AM | | I drove out the bottom of the city as the Ravens game was letting out yesterday. Big mistake. Although not too bad, since the traffic I ran into was on Highways and not city streets. I'm was, as always, excited to get to the trail. Still, I made myself be patient, may have been a lot of drunken fans in those cars. I was to meet up with my pal Joe, [Titus] at Avalon by the pavilions. I had lost 15 minutes in the traffic and he still wasn't there. He showed, we rode. We didn't have much time to ride, because we didn't get our act together until late in the day and the park was gonna close in two hours. That didn't matter too much, we were both outta shape, me from an injury and him from an August slump, due to the heat. An hour and a half ride would be enough. It's the most hills either of us had ridden in 12 or 13 weeks and we did really well. We came across a wayward Passionite on the way out to the "Farm" part of the trail. I confess I recognized his bike before I saw his face. Funny thing about us bike addicts, it was the bike of Shun the Sheep. Not long after meeting up with Shaun we were on a downhill, breeze in our face, me in the lead and a stupid bee stung me on the lower lip and with that, forced the bike to speeds not yet attained by NASA. It hardly swelled up much, but hurt like a soma-b!tch! It didn't get in the way of riding or after-ride chow-down. There's only a tiny, tiny bump today. I chose the EWR hardtail for yesterdays ride. I like that fully, but man that hardtail is sweet. It's not much lighter, but so much more maneuverable in tight single track...it almost over steers in turns compared to the Catamount. We had a short, but no less enjoyable time carving up the singletrack, hopping the logs and grinding up the steeps. I don't have the stamina for long rides, but apparently I haven't lost much of my technical abilities and I seem to be at the same place in my hill climbing abilities too. Bb, [ bees make honey, yellow jackets make trouble. ] |
