Anyone do Rage'n at the Ranch race? Did you hate it?mojoman

Well as my first race experience, I can't say it was too great. people cheating, crappy terrain on cow paths etc....Did anyone else hate it as much as me?

Sorry to hear you had a bad time. I had a conflict so I couldn't be there to see for myself. Surprised that the course wasn't good, as it is next door to some of the best riding in the Bay Area. Could you be more specific wrt the course, etc?
I guess I expected...mojoman

I thought it would be more like Skegg's or even Wilder Ranch, but the grassy trails, and stuttery bumps everywhere made it annoying for me to ride. I am sure some people liked it, it just wasn't my type of riding. Also, everyone in my group ended up doing a lot of hike a bike stuff. There was probably less of this in the sport class though. I didn't place too well too so maybe I am bitter =)

Why do you think people were cheating? The course was pretty good very steep at the top. I took first in the senior beginner class and I was 16th fastest overall. I think the expert trail was shorter that's why their times were so much faster.
well, I'm not sure....mojoman

I don't know for sure that people were cheating, but I heard several people saying they saw people taking shortcuts bypassing large sections of the trail. Of course I didn't see any of this, so who knows. I did see one argument break out between a 3rd and 4th place rider that was basically about the 4th place rider being in front of the other guy the whole way and he never saw him pass etc. but who knows. I definitely had fun in the race, but being my first I expected a little more I guess. The people I met were nice, and I am definitely going to keep up the racing, but I don't think I will do another race there. Also, the organization didn't seem too good. The one restroom for guys sucked, and most of the races I've spectated weren't so cheap on the refreshments etc. That isn't such a big deal, (afterall it's a race, not a banquet) but for $35 you get 1 clif bar, water bottle, and banana and orange slices when you finish. T-shirts are $10, lunch was something like $7. Some of the races my girlfriend has been in they have all kinds of free grub, T-shirts etc. for the racers. And really cheap bar-b-q etc. for the attendees. But due to my inexperience I am probably expecting too much and way out of line. The important thing is that it was fun and I learned a lot riding in that race.

Yes I will agree that the accomodations were less than adequate. The bbq did suck and Budweiser in the can was 2.50. Bring your own food and beers. Your there to race, and you have to admit the course was pretty good. It's Donner ski ranch if you have ever been there before you know the place is a joke. It's a winter haven for young college kids on Snowboards who don't have much money. The tickets are half the price of any other resort in Tahoe, so you get waht you pay for. The cheating thing I don't know where you could cut the course, and you did see course workers making sure you went by them, the lady sitting right after the little wood bridge, on your left. What class did you race?

Oh wait! Actually this was the GILROY race. I screwed it up. It was "ragin at the ranch". Much different. I wish I did the Donner one instead.
