| What a weekend!! | Biking Viking Sep 10, 2001 6:37 AM | | Sorry, no riding content but I wanted to share this anyway.
Business travel is bad. I've done a lot of it lately and I'm still on the road.
Business travel over the weekend is the worst. Unless you get to rent a bike OR - as in this case, get someone to take care of your kids and then your wife flies out to spend the weekend with you. Then it gets actually quite good.
Then when you happen to be traveling to your favorite US city and get to stay downtown eat "lobstah" on a corporate expense account, it gets outright wonderful.
For a European, this place is like coming home and I'm not only talking about the compact layout and the wonderful architecture it's more in the spirit. People walk to get from one place to the other (and actually are noticably thinner than the average US citizen for that reason), eat at sidewalk cafe's and the shops with European-style articles stretch way beyond the selection at Crate & Barrel and Potterybarn (For some reason my wife had to go in there too, just to discover that they contain exactly the same stuff as in California)
Any way it was a truly great weekend without kids in this beautiful city. If this place had hills, I'd move here in a heartbeat!
Cheers,
BV

| I give up BV, where were you? (& Mrs. BV) | ol-crank Sep 10, 2001 6:58 AM | | Sounds great, did I miss it or are you keeping us guessing as to what city you visited. |
| Boston? | moneyman Sep 10, 2001 7:24 AM | | My guess. One of my favorite places in the world. In spite of the fact that Jed tends bar there.

| yep, nice shot of copley sq there [nm] | narlus Sep 10, 2001 7:47 AM | | BV, where'd you ride? fells? lynn woods? |
| I've only been to Beantown once.... | celly Sep 10, 2001 8:02 AM | | Took a bunch of photos at that very place. Great town. I dislike it for the same reasons $$man already mentioned. ;-) |
| what you mean "if this place had hills?" | BostonBullit Sep 10, 2001 9:04 AM | | we gots plenty of hills, just a bit short on mountains! But you can get to a few in a few hours drive. Ok, so they aren't the mountains that you see out west, but they ain't all that bad! Good riding in the summer (bikes), good riding in the winter (snowboards, get used to ice though)...it's a good all around situation.
So did you ride at all? if so, where? if not, WHY NOT? We got a crew of locals (me, narlus, ocron, greengo...the list goes on) here that is always willing to hookup a fellow MTBR'er with a tour of the local hotspots, and for those who are doing the business thing (like yourself) and can't bring a bike there's always a loaner to be had. So next time you're in town don't forget to do a shout out....one of us will see it and track you down!
Nice photos by the way.

| We've got all sorts of hills..... | TNJED® Sep 10, 2001 9:43 AM | | Bunker Hill, Beacon Hill, Mission Hill (you might want to avoid that part of town)
About an hour north will get you some sweet riding spots, and we've also got the Middlesex Fells right here in town. |
| Would have loved to ride with you guys, but couldn't... | Biking Viking Sep 10, 2001 10:07 AM | | Here's why:
1. Weekdays: Tradeshow work and customer visits during the day - then business dinners followed by e-mail work late at night.
2. Weekend: My wife doesn't ride. Not a good move to have her fly six hours each way then go ride and leave her in the hotel.
Will try again next time.
Yes, you've got hills, but I'm talking about getting on my bike at home - then go knock down 6,000 ft of climbing before breakfast. I would miss that if I moved out east.
I have long-time experience in snowriding from before I moved to the US. It's a lot of fun.
