Lunch ride, new downhill speed record+some natural beauty...Biking Viking

It's been a hard week. Lots of work, but I have still been able to sneak in 157 road miles Mon-Fri, so I'm not complaining. I wanted to do a longer lunch ride today - and why not spend the lunch hours go see if I could hit 100kph down Los Trancos Rd in Portola Valley. Well, as you see from the pic I wasn't even close - despite two serious attempts. I had a good sprint start, got into a good aero tuck and broke my old record, but not by much. Hmm, don't know of any other roads in the area that have the potential. Everything steep around here, is very switchy-backy. Will sprint harder next time.

Anyway, it was a good adrenaline rush and on my way home I realized what a beautiful day it was - a pleasant fall sun shining from crystal clear skies and the sweet smell of sage brush tickled my nostrils.

Then - I caught up with this gorgeous lady - at least she looked great, judging from the parts that were visible from my position on her rear wheel. The fact that she rode with her hands deep in the drops only enhanced the view. When I finally passed her, I noticed she was riding a Seven - Wow, it looked so good on her - like a diamond necklace, just much better.

It was the best lunch ride in a while.

Nice speed BV...I don't think I can ever attempt more than 45mph with those skinny tires and cantilever brakes. (Maybe if I had a Super 8...)
Awww sure ya can....Pat T.®

Fastest I ever hit on a road bike was.....Blue 'Goose

62.5 mph.

It was a scary situation since I was about 5 miles from home coming back from an 18-20 miler
and there was a big thunderstorm coming in and huge 25 mph gusts of wind were pounding my
back. As I was hitting this speed it started pouring rain and at the bottom of the hill I was going
down were railroad tracks - terrifying.

Lately, the fastest I've hit was 40 on the roadie and about 32 on the mountain but maybe I'll
try for another speed record before the season ends.

I went like 42mph once on my road bike. Seemed crazy after I did it as I was alone on a fairly secluded road. Then about a week ago I hit, let's see I forget exactly, but 37.3 or 38.3mph on the road on my I-drive. I was motivated because one of our group was down and I had to go get his wife and truck to pick him up....later found out he broke his collarbone in two places. Bummage. Usually I'm pickin' up the rear on those descents. Hats off to anyone who is limited in their speed by physics. I'm limited by...whatever...caution, prudence....lack of balls?

Goat (a rare Saturday post 'cause I'm stuck finishing up a couple things at work...outta here in about 15 minutes)

The fastest I clocked on my computer was goig downhill (ever been to the Canadian Forces Base at Meaford, Ontario? Well, the hill going down to the steakhouse...76km/h peddling, got tired, went into a tuck, and the speed jumped up to 82km/h! Awesome! But in that tuck, I got one of those crazy leg cramps, so I had to stick my one leg straight out to the side. Man, was I scared!
