Kalo-boy on Ride Guide OLN...(11 posts)

Kalo-boy on Ride Guide OLN...gonzostrike
Sep 29, 2001 8:44 AM
The slick one continues to lie his way into making folks believe he's trustworthy. This morning, I was watching OLN's daily live coverage of the Vuelta a Espana. When it was over, Ride Guide came on. There was a relatively uninformative bit on Psycle Werks' new DH frame, the Mad Dog, and on the Wild Hare. Then came the Wrenching section.

Friggin' Bret Waters -- a/k/a Kalo Mtn Cycles -- was the star of the Wrenching section with a bit about changing the rearmost pivot bushings on a Psycle Werks swingarm. He looked preppy and talked like the slick salesman he is. Funny thing is, I came away from that bit thinking he was lying the whole time.

Don't those morons at RideGuide/OLN know that Bret is a liar and a thief?

aaahhh well, off to do some riding

Can you elaborate on your allegations that he is a thief and a liar? I am in the process of buying a 01 PW Wildhare from him and I would like to know why you feel so.

Thanks,

Jason

why not to buy from Bret...Doug

He gave me the run around with an order. Told all kinds of excueses and even made up tracking info (as I was looking at the UPS tracking on my computer). Basically will say anything to keep you from canceling the order.

If you want to look at the message board, just search it. Try "Bret" and you get a bun of messages to read. Then you can play with the URL and see the messages in the directory and read them all. The site was up for just a few days before it came down.

Be prepared, that's the Boy Scout's marching song

Be prepared, as through life you march along

Be prepared to hold your liquor pretty well

Don't write naughty words on walls if you can't spell

Be prepared to hide that pack of cigarettes

Don't make book if you cannot cover bets

Keep those reefers hidden where you're sure

That it will not be found

And be careful not to smoke them

When the scoutmaster's around

For he only will insist that it be shared

Be prepared

Be prepared, that's the Boy Scouts' solemn creed

Be prepared, and be clean in word and deed

Don't solicit for your sister, that's not nice

Unless you get a good percentage of her price

Be prepared, and be careful not to do

Your good deeds when there's no one watching you

If you're looking for adventure of a new and different kind

And you come across a Girl Scout who is similarly inclined

Don't be nervous, don't be flustered, don't be scared

Be prepared

and my experience was great. Ordered some Magura 33's in advance of the Waterdown gathering in '98. Had them mailed to Shiva in NJ, and he brought them up to me. It was a moment's notice and Kalo came through with flying colours.

BUT, I'd never order from him again. There has been far too much bad press around MTBR over the last few years. Pete posted some links and he's just scratching the surface. Where there is smoke there is fire, but in Kalo's case there has been an inferno raging for years. Charlie America is a friend of Bret and seems to have good luck, but he's of the few.

Don't say you weren't warned!
