| HELP! Why doesn't Passion like Netscape? | Red Ascent Oct 25, 2001 5:44 AM | | I'm really stumped on this one..maybe Francis or Greg can help. When I go to Passion from Internet Explorer 5.01, it loads
i instantly
(I'm on a cable modem connection),
but when I load the very same page with Netscape 4.78, it takes forever. I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject, so maybe someone can help me. Would Netscape 6 help? Is there a reasonable explanation for this?
Thanks,
Phil |

| "me fail english... | JC1x1 Oct 25, 2001 7:12 AM | | that's unpossible!" Unix reveals the problem, type 'top' and you will see that all CPU time is going to Netscape, even after it is loaded. Upgrading to newer Netscape version 'should' fix this. |
| re: Netscape Bite's | Wannabe Oct 25, 2001 6:24 AM | | It's supposed to be our default browser. I used it for a week. Then i went and downloaded IE 6 and havent looked back.
If its your home puter, uninstall the netscape, download IE 6 and use it. Dont forget to set IE as your default. other wise the computer may attempt to start both. |
| What's wrong with Netscape? | S+J Oct 25, 2001 6:34 AM | | Use it here all the time at the lab and have very few problems with it. On the other hand, Explorer has constant slowdown and disconnection problems. Maybe it's a high-speed connection that makes Netscape work better, can't be sure...not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers. S.J (global village idiot) |

| Wha.. | S+J Oct 25, 2001 6:56 AM | | I must confess, that shot went right over me noggin. Care to waste your time further by giving me your customary flame-laced reply? No, allow me: "You're full of shit, you're a crybaby, you're C.B, yada yada yada.." There. Just saved your time and mine. S.J |
| Actually, you guessed wrong. | celly Oct 25, 2001 7:10 AM | | You got the crybaby part right, but my reply would have been more like:
"I figured you wouldn't understand". |

| I do, but...... | celly Oct 25, 2001 8:04 AM | | I'm kinda liking this. Watching you flop about is a good diversion. Haven't fished in a while and they're definitely biting in these parts. |

| I wasn't really being facetious....... | celly Oct 25, 2001 7:50 AM | | I used Netscape for years, and resisted every attempt of Bill Gates to mandate how I should be surfing porn, er the net. Around version 4 I got tired of Nestcape crashing all the time and finally gave IE a chance. Give version 6 a chance. Works great (as opposed to the first cut of V6 Netscape which was the biggest piece of junk I'd ever seen). Many webpages won't even support NS 6 any more. We do online banking here at work and they have a big disclaimer on their webpage about using V6. The death knell for NS has been upon us for a long time. It's only a matter of time before AOL/Time Warner gives up on it once and for all. |
| I was afraid of that... | Red Ascent Oct 25, 2001 8:04 AM | | I was going to try Netscape 6 (and now I will), but unfortunately, I'm afraid you're right...it's only a matter of time. Like you, I'll do anything to avoid Mr. Gates (hey, I even own a Macintosh laptop), but even that is becoming a hopeless task. *sigh*
Phil (going to load Netscape 6) |
| The Mac is a great machine..... | celly Oct 25, 2001 8:07 AM | | unfortunately Jobs and Wozniak killed it years ago when they wouldn't let developers near it in its early years. That move alone made Gates a very rich man with DOS/Windows. I bought a Mac when they first came out and resisted the PC World for many years until I had to start using them at work. Win 3.11 to boot (what a lousy operating environment). Win95 looked so much like the Mac OS that I finally bought myself a Windows machine and never looked back. I've been using the Win XP preview OS for a few months now, and it's the best Win yet.
Long live the Mac.
Anyhow, I digress..... |
| Is XP really that good..... | TNJED® Oct 25, 2001 8:35 AM | | They're saying there are some serious privacy issues concerning its "pssport" feature. That's probably just the Gates haters acting up though. |
| I don't know anything about the privacy issue..... | celly Oct 25, 2001 8:49 AM | | I'm speaking clearly from a reliability issue, and the user interface. My machine never crashes or hangs up anymore like it did with Win95/98/ME. Because it's running on an NT platform, it's inherently more stable, or so they say. I believe it now that I'm running it. I've been using the pre-release version which supposedly doesn't have all the bugs out of it, but I've had no problems at all. They just released the official version today, but I've got about 4 1/2 months on my trial version. I'll wait until the price comes down a bit. All the retailers are selling it at the same price today.

| I read an article a couple days ago.... | TNJED® Oct 25, 2001 8:55 AM | | I guess when you install it, it asks for a ton of personal information 5 times during the installation. It can take all your financial and personal info and keep it in a database for bill paying, shopping, etc. The issue was, who manages this db and who has access to it.
The resolution as far as I'm concerned is, hey if you're nervous about it, don't use it. |
| I don't remember that happening..... | celly Oct 25, 2001 9:21 AM | | during the pre-release install. Might be the case with the "real deal". |
