,of course, throwing my leg over a top tube and going for a spin. It doesn't have to always be on dirt, but it helps. So it may come as a surprise to some of you that every now and then I accomplish the mysterious. To me that means fixing/repairing/installing something bike related.

Today I reinstalled a rear derailleur & cable that had been seeing duty out of state. Now for some of you this is second nature. For me it's rocket science of the highest order. My problem is that if I can't visualize then I can't do(with any confidence of the outcome). Well with the aid of Zinns' book, a new cable and some patience it's installed and working quite well. It'll still have to be done many times before it ever becomes second nature(still can't visualize the mechanics of it), but someday it'll be as easy as riding a bike.

Deep thought is thinking about one thing positively. Cheap thought is about doing one thing negatively.

Welcome to the next level of bike maintenance - the lesson on headset installation and fork cutting will start shortly...

Congrats! The feeling of accomplishment that you get from doing something you thought not possible is great, I think. Especially when it's something you really enjoy.

Good to see you stopping by, Fred!

... but with the help of Zinn's, Sheldon's site, and Park Tool's page I've pretty much got it down... errrmm... except for which one of those d@mn limit screws is the H or L limit! I always keep forgetting which is which. :-D

®andy --> love my SRAM 9.0 R/D 'cuz the screws are labeled.
