| A Thursday Afternoon Quickie at Skeggs | Biking Viking Oct 26, 2001 6:49 AM | | Skeggs is this odd place where you can ride for three hours, have a good workout and when you get to the car, you think there's something wrong with your computer - What? Only 20 miles?
Well Dave (x-roadie and occasional Passion lurker) and I sampled some of Skeggs finest singletrack on this warm October afternoon. Steam Donkey, Manzanita, Giant Salamander, Resolution, North Leaf, South Leaf and Methuselah - and it was dark as we poached our way out - ten minutes later than the legal one-half hour after sunset.
BV coming down from the high line of a berm on Manzanita. What's with that funny face?
Then we met these tho pathetic posers - lycra clad Si Valley marketing yuppies on their Ti bikes. Yuck! Probably don't even know how to ride.... But, wait isn't that....
When this place was logged and cleaned for 2000-year-old redwoods to rebuild San Francisco after the earthquake in 1906, there was one tree they couldn't get down. I you look to right of the upper end of the crack with my bike in, there's a scar from the saw. Survival of the fittest.
Jungle ride.
Time to turn around and climb back up. Skeggs is that kind of park where you party first, then deal with the hangover - if you park at the top as most people do. The lenses of my Smiths work great as orange filter by the way.
Hope that gets you in the mood for some weekend riding.

| "party first, then deal with the hangover " | celly Oct 26, 2001 7:04 AM | | Excellent description. We rode Skeggs as part of Charlie A' gathering in '00, and that's exactly how I felt when I climbed out of there. Hungover. But in the best way.
Nice shots. |
| Skeggs is a really nice place to ride... | TinyTank Oct 26, 2001 7:05 AM | | but I only had the occasion to go there once. Oh well, maybe next time.
Great post and great pictures BV. Thanks for posting.
