I read a message on another board from somebody who claimed to have placed 11th at the 1986 World MTB Championships. He also claimed to have had a road bike frame that was a "campinolgo", so I have reason doubt him. Does anybody know of an online resource where I could verify this info?
Well . . . .Fiver

According to the UCI website, the official (UCI-sanctioned) world championships for MTB didn't start until 1990: http://www.uci.ch/english/mtb/palmares/index_worlds.htm

I suppose there could have been unofficial championships before that, but I really don't know for sure.
Doubt away...kristian

Like Fiver mentioned, the first World Championships was held in Durango in 1990. Saying that you came in 11th place is also a handy lie because even if there HAD BEEN a World Championship race in 1986, you would only be able to find at most the top 10 finishers (UCI only lists the top three). It would be very difficult to disprove his lie. I would bet almost anything that he's full of shit.
I came in 10th!JimC

but never looked back so cannot verify he was in 11th, sorry. ;P

I redeemed myself with a DFL in '99 at Test of Metal. I guess I'm a cr@ppy racer. Better stick to simple pedalling. Jim ^:o/

Kidding. I know how it feels to bring up the rear. I think there were only about five or six people behind me in the '00 race.

I take consolation in the fact that I managed to finish, tho, because not everyone can say that. It took me more than six hours, mind you, but I finished.

Next year is going to be my year. My goal is to break the five-hour mark. Woo hoo. 67 km of suffering!
