Non-MTB, HTML editor suggestions(8 posts)

Non-MTB, HTML editor suggestionsCraigH

I used to use FrontPage Express when it came with IE, but MS has apparently removed that. I have an older bought copy of FrontPage on my home computer.

I've tried using the HTML editor that comes with Netscape and it crashes with large tables.

I'm looking for an editor that allows you to edit both the HTML source and as you see it (WYSIWYG).

Oh ya, it needs to be freeware or shareware.

Thanks!

Re: Mtn biking, had a great North Shore ride on Sunday with a bunch of Passion regulars. Just waiting for one of them to post pics as lots were taken.

As a webmaster I've tried many html editors, and nothing else comes close to Macromedia Dreamweaver. It is an awesome web design/maintenance tool, and the version 4 has the ability to display html source and page layout simultaneously. Dreamweaver is to web design as Photoshop is to digital photography.

Dreamweaver all the way! But it's not shareware. And I don't condone stealing it. But if you can get your hands on a copy, it is the best way to go. Even if you know nothing about HTML, this will put together a killer page FAST! And as you progress, you can shut off the wysiwyg, and only get the HTML code. I run it with both. Program in HTML code at the top of the screen, and the what would be displayed shows up underneath. Great program.

Both myself and Mrs. Steve-O dabble in web design for work. She's a dreamweaver fanatic; but like the previous post said it's not shareware.... You can get a 30 day trial download at the macromedia website www.macromedia.com.

As for me, I learned on Homesite and it is still the software I use. It doesn't have all the features of Dreamweaver but it works great as a WYSIWYG editor. Prior to Allaire being bought out by Macromedia you could get a "guiltware" version of Homesite. You can download version 4.0 at this site http://www.dpu-ebiz.org/ by looking under the software tools section...

Oh wait that's for morons like me who still try to peck out their own code. I really should sit down and learn one of these new authoring softwares. First up though is Macromedia Director.

It's like that song "When the Finger Pickers Took Over the World" except now it's "When the Code Pickers Took Over the World". Long live BBEdit! whoop!
