Weekend Ride Pics, Cypress Bowl Provincial Park(31 posts)

Weekend Ride Pics, Cypress Bowl Provincial ParkDuncan!
Nov 27, 2001 9:37 AM
We rode Cypress this weekend, the proverbial 3rd Rock of the North Shore (Fromme and Seymour are the other two). The plan was to climb to the second viewpoint and do Sex Boy and Wild Cherry.

Those who climb the 2,000 ft to the trailhead are rewarded with a southward looking panorama of Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, Point Roberts, the San Juan Islands and beyond:

The ride could have begun better for me ... SPLAT!

"If at first you don't succeed ..."

"WEAR MORE ARMOUR!!"

Finally finishing off the rock, which I botched badly and fell hard on during a downpour a couple of weeks ago:

Kudos to the guys on the ride doing the old-school XC hardtail thing

they put up a great effort

Here is Craigh rocking on Sex Boy, taking a line that is much closer to the face than I did

going past the drop and rooty transition down the side

Craigh rolls a small drop on Wild Cherry

Here Craigh goes over a rooty section

And finally from the "Steeper Than It Looks" Department

Thanks for the pic Duncan!CraigH

Actually ...Duncan!
Nov 27, 2001 11:04 AM
I decided to set the camera to lo-res (640X480 format) for the day for pretty much the first time. Seems to suck far less juice out of the battery. I need to experiment with resolution, flash, adaptation to lighting, exposure settings etc some more.
Thanks for the pics, Duncan!CraigH

what a joke. I've got to find a way to cut the line. There is a side road that comes in right at the Duty Free Store, need to link up to that.

We rode Firehose. Fun and short.

Long line up was due to US holiday traffic....CraigH
Nov 27, 2001 1:02 PM
Saw on TV that Duty Free business has picked up due to that line jumping feature.

What do you think about Cypress again this Sunday, different trails though?
re: US holiday traffic....Monte
Nov 27, 2001 1:11 PM
I know it was the holiday traffic. But I need to get the shortcut figured out just incase.

Sunday? Dunno yet. Doing Cypress again would be okay with me.

Blue helmet with blue sleeves on jacket = Aaron (sp?) a friend of LeeL's.

Blue helmet with orange fork & gold rims = ToddC a long time member of the lawyer ride list although we haven't seen him on a ride in a long time.

One of the best rides I've had in a long time. What's scary is 2 years back I walked that stuff, last year it was fear holding me back, now no walk, no fear, except for teh cliffs and major drops. However, notice that I still can't ride it very well, but it is truly a blast. I need more armour, bigger tires, and, and, and, what am I thinking? Jeez.

Jim ...always humbled by the dang hills.
Right on!kristian

Choice pix! And a tire question...woe
Nov 27, 2001 8:06 PM
What tires do you use on that stuff? I wouldn't dare try it on any I've been on. thx.
Downhill tires: Anything FAT - 2.35 in and bigger ...Duncan!
Nov 27, 2001 9:13 PM
Popular choices on the North Shore - Maxxis Tires (Hi-Roller, Mojo, MoFo), IRC Kujo DH, Nokian Gazzalodi. No doubt there are others, but these are the popular choices. D.
My tires...CraigH
Nov 28, 2001 10:30 AM
2.7 Intense 60 compound on the front (I'd like to go with a softer compound.)

2.5 Maxxis 60 compound on the rear

The other rear tire I've tried was a 2.35 Intense 60 compound but it seemed to wear quite quickly.
