Switchblade vs. Tracer(8 posts)

Switchblade vs. TracerSukow
Nov 27, 2001 12:11 PM
I just returned from a visit to Arizona and while there I stopped in to see the folks at Titus. Great operation going on there, and I commend Alan for showing me around the shop and telling me all the ins and outs of producing a wonderful product. I know that their frames are quite spendy and I have narrowed down my decision on purchasing either a Switchblade or a Tracer for next year. I have looked at the design of both and they are relatively the same design with the exception of a few details on the swingarm.

Does anyone have any unbiased input on the differences and the similarities between these two frames and if they've had the wonderful experience of riding either of these two bikes.

Thanks

Ryan

It's a small shop in Austin and he sells both. I've heard great things about him and his shop and I suspect he can help you out.

Or just wait a while, he'll probably see this and reply.

I recently had the chance to meet Charles. He struck me as a very cool individual. He didn't even laugh while I fumbled around on a FS Titus he let me test ride to get the feel of the Fox Forx (veerrrry plush). Was willing to talk to me at length about spec'in out my dream bike. I know where I'm gonna spend my $4k

For comparision sake, both have adjustable travel, simular geometry , corrected geometry for use of a 100mm travel fork, and design characteristics. Tracer travel cant be increased anymore than 4"s, but you can use a coil over. Whereas the SB offers up to 5.7"s of travel and can use a coil over.

...but in case you do, I've heard many times how Tracer comes with very cheap decals that peal away quickly. Switchblade on the other hand has anodized frame that will look great for years.

Quality, performance, and warranty wise, the bikes are a toss up IMHO.

I'd get the Titus just to be different. Too many Tracers roaming the trails.

Also, you can get the Titus in a sweet anodized gold. Outfit it with black parts and watch the heads turn!

You cannot fit a coil over into a Switchblade, and the Horst link fittings are differenty on the 2 bikes. On the Tracer, the chainstay fits over the rear link and the bearing goes through the 2 pieces. On the SB, the chainstay has 2 pieces that the rear link fits between, and the bearing goes through all 3 pieces. So the SB has a beefier link job. Hard to describe, I'm not sure if I did a good job.

and rode my buddies Tracer. The Medium's are almost identical in sizing so that's a wash. Other sizes differ so that may come into play. The Tracer seemed to be more plush despite less travel. It didn't seem to have the snappy acceleration of the SB though. The SB is supposed to be stiffer but at 175lbs, I didn't really notice the difference. The Tracer is a bit more adjustable. I would think the Tracer might favor the slow speed hits better but when the speed picks up the SB really begins to shine. Both are very nice bikes, it's hard to go wrong.
