| Clean air... | JRinCA Nov 27, 2001 11:26 AM | | Darned protein powder! I'll definitely be found out now!
BULLETIN
Each day this week, the building will be conducting the semi-annual air monitoring throughout the building for the "Clean Air Monitoring Program". Members of CTL Environmental Services will be walking each floor during normal business hours to take air samples. There should be no real disturbance in your office space.
Thank you for your cooperation.
MTB content- Used the "juice" this past weekend, still paying for it! Anyone know how to minimize the effects of protein powder on the digestive system? |
| a little bit o' gas, eh? | Stick Nov 27, 2001 11:35 AM | | lol, that's funny. Whatcha using? Maybe try a shake w/ a bit less protein? Or, try protein from a diff. source?
I've never tried any of the weight-gain super-protein shakes (as evidenced by my handle), but I drink Spirutein (soy) shakes and Champion Metabolol (don't recall the source off the top of my head) fairly regularly without affecting my coworkers' nostrils in any way. |
| Magnesium citrate. | Pete. Nov 27, 2001 11:37 AM | | Available over the couunter at your local pharmacy. It will clean you right out, in a hurry.
I've always wanted to add some to someone's camelback as a practical joke but it's a bit harsh.

I thought you needed the stuff they used on horses. Thanks for the tip.

| What kind of problems you havin'? | TheWanderer Nov 27, 2001 12:52 PM | | I've never had any negative side-effects from using protein powder. I've used three different brands over the last couple of years, but always Whey Protein. I take it with milk after I lift, as a recovery shake. Are you using strictly protein powder or something with creatine or something else added in?

| I don't even drink milk with my powder. | JRinCA Nov 27, 2001 2:04 PM | | Gas worse than post-beer gas. I only drink the good stuff for a long ride. Seems to effect by bowels for 3-4 days post ride. Am I not burning enough of the protein off? I would think on the long rides I'm more in the calorie deficient mode rather than excess protein. I just use protein powder and a glucose/amino acid rehydration drink. |
| You don't really "burn" protein per se.... | TheWanderer Nov 27, 2001 10:14 PM | | Protein aids more in recovery than in energy. Like after you fatigue your muscles till the point of breakdown (weighlifting or sprint-heavy ride perhaps), then the protein helps rebuild the muscle fibers. It's only tapped as an energy source after your body burns all of its carbohydrate stores (and I think even after fat, but I'm not sure). So I don't think it's an excess of protein that's gassin' you up.
Now that I think about it, though, most of those electrolyte drinks do not sit well in my stomach when I'm riding or running, that is when I take them *during* whatever I'm doing. I'm not sure if it's the sugar in them or the tendency to drink too much of the stuff that makes me stomach upset. Dunno.
Probably not too much help, just my .02.
Peace,
