I have a cap like that that I skied in for years (although it was tan and brown instead of rainbow colored) but it finally got retired when I started skiing with the brain bucket. Gotta love a nice touque! (is that spelled correctly?)

but close enough. Toque, I think, now that I look at it I'm not sure.

Brain bucket for skiing? hmn, seems a fad. In all the years I've been skiing I've only smashed my head 10+ times. Hmn, maybe there's a message there? I'll check with my skiing bud, Sonny Bon, oh, wait....

...until four seasons ago when I was skiing Berthoud Pass and I clipped a branch with my noggen. It ripped the aforementioned ski toque of my head and left a small gash. I had two thoughts--damn that was lucky--and--I would never mountain bike through the trees like this without a helmet so what am I doing skiing without one? I bought a helmet the next day.

I love it for tree bashing (I actually brush branches away with my head now instead of trying to cower benieth them) but I thought it would be overkill for skiing the groomers. And then I had a particularly spectacular wipeout at the bottom of Keystone where I realized that the helmet had just saved me from a two and a half hour drive home with a splitting headache.

Oddly enough, a disproportionatly high percentage of the skiers who were killed last year in Colorado WERE wearing helmets. I think this is because "risk takers" are more likely to be wearing helmets than normal people. Still, it's something to think about...

It's "toke", but remember, it can affect your judgement.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

MTB content: I wore by biking helmet backcountry skiing last winter (trees are tight here in the east).

Call up Titec in Milpitas CA. I think

that City is right. They were in Sunnyvale

but moved. Anyway, I have a beanie made

by them that is cool. Front say's Titec, back

say's Hellbent. As a bonus you can use

it like a beanie or pull it down over

your face and down to your neck for super

cold rides. Only your eyes and a small

breathing hole for your nose are exposed.

Just like you were robbin a bank mask but

warm. If it's not on there site be sure to

call and ask them. I'm Out.

MTK {BBquen some Tri Tip tonight yes sir.}
