| re: experience to share... | freeranter Nov 27, 2001 10:46 PM | | my ride is an AC2, Z3 QR20 130mm, avid mech's, gripshift, chopped a half inch off each end of the bars that came with the bike, I've got a set of 317's as well as the beefy rhyno lites that came with the bike. The usual trails I ride(not bicycle trails but gnarly jungle motorcycle trails, and since this is Passion, I've included a photo) have large rocks, roots, etc. and this bike flies through(and over) this stuff. I love it. Previous bike was a heckler with 100mm Z3 QR20. I'm riding way faster with the new bike and am very happy on the climbs both short and long. My Titec Berzerk DH saddle helps alot on the ups thanks to the long length. My better half's ride is FSR with a Sid 100 and low rise monkey lites. It's fun to switch back and forth as her bike feels like such a "race" bike compared to my rig, but I am addicted to the long travel, slack angle feel of my Giant, it suits my riding style which has evolved with technology. It's hard to describe if you haven't ridden fast extra rough stuff on a rig like this. Basically trying to have it all, a fast accelerating bike that can take big hits, handle tight and technical, etc. Anyway, you are describing what I assembled as an ideal trail bike, which has changed my idea of what is an ideal trail, a never ending cycle that for me started 20 years ago with my first mtb, and now here I am nearly forty years old, my bike is getting heavier and so is the riding I do. Obviously I love talking about this stuff, but that is because I am having so much fun riding, so go spend some money and see what you are missing. email me if you want, I can provide endless esoteric details. | Not at all... (DO IT!!!) | dante Nov 28, 2001 6:36 AM | | Have a bullit built up with a Z.1 130mm, 317s, Hayes, RF NS crank/bashguard/etc., and LOVE it. It makes an excellent trail-bike, and although it's a tad heavy (35 lbs or so), it pedals great and I can keep up with most of the people that I ride with. You'll get used to the weight, or at least I did. Plus when you switch back to your HT or XC bike, it feels like a feather. Oh yeah, build it up strong, thought mine was just going to be a "trail bike" and now I'm throwing it off of stuff taller than me. Enjoy.

| Noope. | Dilly Dally Nov 28, 2001 3:20 PM | | I have a stock AC1. It's a really good do-everything bike. You can really fly on the flats, on the downhills, on the really technical uphills. It's only on the really long climbs that the weight starts to hurt. But even there it's not _that_ bad. |
