your choice in road tires for your mtb?Harovore

Was looking thru Nashbar's catalog ... now that I have *2* mtbs again, I'm thinking about converting one to my commuter bike. I'm looking for as high performance of a road tire I can find for my mtb:

The Tioga City Slicker looks very good: can get as narrow as 26" x 1.25", can inflate up to 85 lbs., only *390* grams.

The IRC Metro Clincher: can get as narrow as 26" x 1.5", can inflate up to 85 lbs., weighs 555 grams.

Michelin Wildgripper Rock: can get as narrow as 26" x 1.75", no info re: how high you can inflate it, weighs in at 720 grams.

I think the Tioga City Slickers are the way to go.

What do you use and how do you like them?

Thanks for your input.
Yep try these if you find them...HTmaniac

schawlbe 1" x 26 " slicks, or Hutchinson 1.2 "...schawlbe have better grip and performance weight around 290 grms, if I remenber correctly, last longer, but are more expensive.

I use to inflate these fellow up to 7-8 bars.

Avenir slicks. They are something like 2.1,they look like motorcycle tires! I am sure that they aren't very fast, but they look way cooler then skinny tires on my hardtail.

is what I use. It comes in either 1.25 or 1.5 and is a pretty tough tire. I've got over 2k miles on a set so far with no problems. The only downside is that they are a b!tch to mount. The last six inches just doesn't want to go. I run two sets of wheels, one for commuting with the Michelins on and another set for dirt with the knobbies, so I don't have to switch off the tires. I run them at 80psi and they roll real smooth.
i've used the tiogas, they are fine. Now...dr hoo

... i use some trek 1.5s with a solid center bead and inverted tread for the rest of the tire, A bit of tread works better for me on the sand and other crap around here come spring. They were cheap and they work and they wear like iron.

For so cal i would go with tioga.

Of course, now that the snow is falling my commuter has the big, fat, knobbies on it for the rest of winter.

...but I went wider (1.9) than you seem to be interested - higher rolling resistance, but still able to tackle some of the local dirt trails along my route.

Really like 'em when the pavement is wet - good gription.

They're 1.5s and have flat protection via a kevlar belt. I don't know the weight or pressure max. I do know that they've been working just fine for me and I've got prolly close to 1K miles on em with only one flat!
I second that. . . .giantxc

I used a set for a while on a road/urban mtb. No flats even after drops and stairs.
